Just when did we get this polarized? There's a significant portion of the population that would turn the U.S. into Sweden if given the chance: a peaceful, placid place with a sensible drug policy and a penchant for not mucking about with other countries. OTOH, there's a rabid majority who would turn the U.S. into Afghanistan if given the chance.
What has happened to us? G-d!!!!

I was 17 when I first went to a Sunday Service and the sermon that day was about lost sheep who go astray because they don't know any better. Then the floor was opened for questions and I asked, in good faith, how he could be so sure that we didn't know any better and were going astray...
Some 10 minutes later, he told me, from the pulpit, to never come to the church as I wasn't welcome.

Not that I ever actually advocated for the devil, but I'd play "devil's advocate" in Sunday school, arguing against whatever it was that was under discussion.
It made people think about what they were thinking, at least.
