On the Today Show this morning, when asked what platforms Republicans would be running on during the 2006 elections:

(paraphrased)Chris Matthews: "Well, Republicans can't point to their record because it's dismal. They've failed to do anything on a whole slew of issues -- Social Security, Immigration, Gay Marriage, Medicare etc., etc. They gave ( Read more... )

Yeah, that about covers it.

I think Americans are sick of being afraid. Sick of being bullied and babied into a nanny-state submission and forced to acquiesce as our rights are taken away and our economy tanks.

Gas is $3 a gallon, 40% of mortgages use option ARMs, and health care is a purse-draining boondoggle. Afghanistan is turning into Opium Central, Iraq is a bloodbath, and we're saber rattling with an Iranian president who's absolutely crazy enough to call our bluff and laugh at us.

Oh, and a major American city is a wasteland because Bush couldn't be bothered to fund $40 million to preserve the levees.

Had enough? I sure have.

Ah HA! You're the person who texted me last week? The return email address wasn't yours (at least I'm pretty sure it wasn't,) so I didn't reply.

Hrm. I'd say I added about a quarter of them first, before they found me. I participate (with varying frequency) in a number of communities and some folks found me through that. Some, through posts that have gained a bit of wider attention, like this one or this. A number, like juliarandolph and rparvaaz are friends from either the David Brin Mailing List or the Iain Banks Culture list. gbam is family. Sometimes folks friended me after seeing a link that was picked up and credited on a friend's journal. But I don't think I've ever actively attempted to bring in friends and readers except by being opinionated and addicted to linkspam. ;-)

I like Matthews. I've always thought he was the smartest cat on cable news.
