i hate raw onions too but when you cook them they carmalize and get sweet and nice. i use them a lot in stirfry and stuff. the semi-raw eggs are intentional, raw egg is a v. japanese cooking thing. i kinda enjoy it but in general since we're taught since we're kids RAW EGGS ARE DANGEROUS DEADLY THINGS it was a little hard to get over that at first :o

YAY! Another cooking post! I was starting to miss them. This looks fairly simple; I should try it sometime.

Cooking with Dog is fun, but I have trouble with how vague the instructions are, too. (That, and I tend to have trouble finding certain ingredients. I never know where to look for dashi stock, for instance. And none of my cooking equipment is quite as nice as hers.) But given that I'm on a super strict diet at the moment, all of this is sort of a moot point. :P

The way I handle cold rice like that (because I sometimes just have it on hand, and don't feel like making fresh) is to sprinkle it with a little water (say, like a teaspoon full), cover it with either a paper plate or wax paper, and then microwave it for a minute or so. (Just enough to get it hot, basically.) I find that putting the little bit of water in with before reheating it kinda re-steams it just a bit, and sorta takes away that dried out, sitting-in-the-fridge-for-a-few-days taste that you get with leftover rice. STILL NOT QUITE AS GOOD AS FRESH, BUT IT WORKS.

Oh, yeah! That's what I do with leftover rice, too. Peps it right up. \o/

Haha it took me forever to find the dashi. Alix was so annoyed with me as I pored over the shelves at the store all IT HAS TO BE HERE SOMEWHERE. >:(
It didn't occur to me how vague it was until I actually had to do it myself, haha

Oh dang, I didn't know you could do that. :O I'll have to remember that in the future.

old rice..no wonder why you get sick.

I like eggs, onions, and chicken but normally not together unless in a sandwich. Were I there I would definitely try some but certainly would do w/o rice.
