~Fun with EarthBound - Stonehenge's Dirty Secret
Didn't remember my dreams last night, hurray! Alix also came home earlier than I thought and we got to play some more Pokémon! :D
We're still flailing against the Elite Four without success. I can reliably get to the Fire guy before I get knocked out. At one point Alix decided to go earn some coins to buy an Ice Beam TM for his Abomasnow, and I decided to go hunting for some of the weirder Pokémon I'd seen. In particular I went looking for that land shark...Gible? Giblet? Gibler? YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT that one the one below cycling road. I spent like an HOUR looking around in there for it and NOTHING. I even led what's her face, the little girl to the entrance and MADE A MAP and nothing. Not a single one. I'm beginning to wonder if maybe I'm just doing something wrong, or if this is just Chimecho all over again. >(
Thing is that me looking through the cave took about the same time as Alix's coin run, so we're back to where we started, except he's got an Ice Beam TM and I got bupkis. Darn it. I didn't even really want to raise it, I just kind of wanted one to see what it was like. Ah well.
I checked out the thing about natures and stuff, and found out that my little parrot Pokémon has a nature that makes its defense really really low. WELL, THAT EXPLAINS IT. Also my Gastrodon does not learn earthquake. Frick. I know there's a TM for that but I dunno where to buy it. I CAN'T JUST USE IT AJSHGIAHGHAHDGHAG CAN'T WASTE TMS SO PARANOID

Pikmin - Mushroom Pikmin. Funkmeister can attest to this, but I've spent many hours just playing around in Challenge Mode on Pikmin, testing out different enemies and trying to find all the tiny details. I especially love playing with the mushroom Pikmin, since they're so...bizarre. I zoomed in as close as I could, and hopefully youtube didn't mangle the quality too much. The actual vid I have of it is very clear. Anyway. There's just general mushroom pikmin behavior, then some oddness where I walked away, the Pikmin faded out like it wasn't selected even though it still had a mushroom cap, and then it kept attacking the mushroom on its own, even though I couldn't whistle for it to come back.
Also, Pikmin rescue each other from mushrooming. :O They'll hit a mushroom Pikmin if they can catch it, and that turns it back to normal. :D There is SO MUCH detail in these games, I love it.
Pikmin - Mushroom Pikmin Part 2 with a larger group. They do something really odd here...just dance off and make this bizarre noise and stop chasing Olimar. Very strange. I'm kinda sad they didn't have mushroom Pikmin in Pikmin 2, but I guess they had the big purple Pikmin and they couldn't have two types of purple Pikmin, one evil one good. I wish I had Pikmin 2 so I could get some Pikborb videos. PIKBORBS ARE ADORABLE.
Pikmin - We'll Save You! Pikmin will save each other from drowning. No joke. Check it out. I just think that's so adorable. God I love this game so much.

Every enemy in here is annoying, and the base is LONG. and it takes FOREVER. And even for me, as overleveled as I am, by the end of it I'm usually fairly worn out. There's also another source of frustration in here, but I'll get to that in a second.

Starman! I didn't actually fight it here, I can apparently one-shot kill them on their own. Huh. Sadly this doesn't happen very often.

These guys are interesting. Remember Poo's Mirror Ability, that lets him copy any enemy and use all their moves, although you lose control of him for it? This is the only use I've ever found for it. Mirroring these guys, then waiting for Poo to use the Restore Fuel Supply ability to heal random people in my party for free. Can be useful.

AHA, HERE WE GO. That gold Starman Super is the bane of my existence.
There's a lot of 1/128 items in Earthbound, meaning that they're items that, when you kill a certain enemy, have a one in a hundred twenty eight chance of dropping. That is RARE, and you can go for HOURS without ever finding one. You can play the game over and over and over and NEVER FIND THEM. It took one guy a YEAR to get them all (note: video has spoilers). A bunch of them are fairly unimportant, a PSI Caramel or Pizza or what have you, but some can be very, very useful. Notably, everyone's final and most powerful weapon and the best armor are all 1/128 items. The most famous of all of these items is the Sword of Kings, the only weapon that Poo can equip in the entire game. It's a 1/128 item, and only the Starman Super drops it.
I have never gotten it, even though I have spent hours and hours trying. SO. FRUSTRATING. Everytime I play through I swear I'm going to get it this time, but I NEVER DO. ARRRRHG.
Further into the base. Getting darker as we go along...

This room is in fact, this dark. Occasionally there are flashes of light, but it's VERY hard and annoying to navigate. God I hate this base so much.

The darkness of this room makes getting that present more annoying than it ever should be.
Sometimes I'd let them call for help, in hopes of increasing my chances for a Sword of Kings by increasing the number of Supers in battle. DIDN'T WORK. rrrgh.
