So, um. Despite my deep-seated dislike for Facebook, I signed up for Google+. (What? Yeah, I know it isn't rational.)

So far, I really like what I've seen, although I'm sure I don't understand even half the things I can do. But the possibility to have a news feed, contacts, documents, photos and -- possibly, if I understand it correctly --

Heh, I saw that! And it was my initial thought at first, too - but having wandered around a little, there do seem to be two very crucial differences to me. For one, G+ brings together some things that were scattered all over the place before (like tumblr, news feed and some such). And from my limited experience with Facebook, it always seemed to me to be about "oh, look at how cool I am and the cool thing I did" whereas Google+ is more about "whoa, look at all the shiny stuff!" And also about "oh, shiny stuff, but not interesting to everyone, so I'll rec it only to people who might care."

Again, very limited experience with Facebook. :)
