They're both so hurt and needy and a little bit crazy. And, just, Holmes is better than winning a bet. Watson is better than opium. They fall into each other, and it just makes sense and there is healing! *eaves hands*

I just, just! Holmes would feel guilty because in a way, indirectly, it's his fault Mary's dead. And while even know, the thought of Watson with her still hurts because it means Watson will never be his, Holmes also never, ever wanted Watson unhappy. And now, indirectly, it's his fault that Watson is.

The one they develop (although some might argue it's always been there, just suppressed) is the most forceful one; it's the one that cancels out all others, and, just. They're both broken and torn and needy, and the only reason they're staying upright is because they lean on each other!
