Supernatural Season Ten Countdown...Season Four

Oct 02, 2014 23:30

Let it be known that I am one heck of a fan of Jensen Ackles's non-verbal acting skills and the opening scenes of the Season Four premiere, Lazarus Rising, which Jensen carries single-handedly with virtually no dialogue, absolutely blew me away.

Over on one of the Facebook SPN groups they were asking for people's favourite scenes ever and this was mine for the exact same reasons you state. An elongated, non-verbal scene which is all about Jensen's awesome talent. It kills me that he gets virtually no recognition outside of the fandom for that immense skill.

I'm always hunting online for articles which discuss his acting style and technique from a perspective of understanding and there's virtually nothing. Nobody ever seems interested enough in his craft to ask him either. It would make a fascinating interview and I bet he'd love to talk about it. A lot more than all the Destiel shit and personal invasions he usually has to deal with anyway.

Maybe someone will ask him in one of the next cons...

I just adore this episode - there is SO much packed into it too.

Have you read this piece? - http://www.sheilaomalley.com/?p=72302

It touches on many aspects of Jensen's craft that the writer appreciates (mostly his gift for comedy and the way he completely inhabits his character in every scene) but there's also a break down of a non-verbal reaction scene. The piece makes for some interesting reading.

And yep, I love it when the boys talk about their acting. Jared talked a bit at Chicon last year about the challenges of having to switch between Sam and Gadreel, in particular one scene where he had to switch, switch back, then do it again within a short space of time. I managed to have a brief conversation with him about that (basically me telling him he got it right and was doing a good job!) but whenever I was anywhere near Jensen I succumbed to 'the Jensen effect' and forgot how to connect my brain to my mouth...

Yes I have. A couple of times. That's what I meant by somebody who really knows their shizzle and can apply it to other actors. I wish there were more essays like this. I wish more interviewers would ask about it rather than going for the usual banal shit. It's too much to hope for at cons as I honestly think the greater majority of fans who attend just aren't interested enough. For me it's the only thing that matters.

Love " The Jensen Effect". There's a story in that phrase for sure. It would be pointless me going anywhere near him for that exact reason. I'd go bright red and wouldn't be able to think of a thing to say. I'd come off looking like an idiot and hate myself after.
