I think I'm going to really like this show. I know a lot of pretentious reviewers gave it low marks for various reasons that professional reviewers tend to, but at the end of the day, it's entertaining. I don't know about anyone else, but that's why I watch TV

It has potential. Hope they don't waste it. I'll stick around anyway and give it time to come into its own. Especially since they employ my friend, haha.

Yeah, it's not totally original, but really, what is? I trust Joss to explore new territory as it progresses, though. He doesn't really seem to be one to hold much to convention.

Anyway, I liked it a lot.
I can't see them controlling everything. The newest active is Sierra. Something happened to Alpha. That says to me there are 18(?) actives. Not really enough to be running everything.
I saw some plot holes that were not tremendously bothersome. If they *later* found out that the person they took the personality trait from killed herself, how difficult could it be to check for that stuff *before* using it? Or do they Just Not Care (going back to the evil actually)

Well, considering actives won't remember the place when they leave (or are killed in the line of duty, which I'm assuming happens sometimes), it's possible there have been a dozen Sierras before this one. But you're right - there are still at most 26 actives at any given time.
Or maybe if they expand, they'll go into double and triple letters. Alpha Alpha. Alpha Bravo, etc, etc.
Either way, they definitely have an awful lot of influence.

I'm gonna go with this answer. I think it's pretty safe to say these are fairly shortsighted people who only consider what they need at the moment and don't think about the consequences (hrm, didn't I hear that word used a couple of times in the opening scene?)

And I have to wonder... does the basic plot (a contract in which one agrees to be whoever the company wants for 'given length of time') remind anyone else of the general life of an actor? I mean, Joss came up with this while talking to Eliza Dushku about her required new show for Fox, right? *shrug* Just a thought.

Well, I was definitely more impressed with the premise than the episode itself. I thought it was good in that it set up a lot of interesting potential directions, but you're right, as an episode, it was a bit slow and shallow. But then, the same could be said of 'Welcome to the Hellmouth' and we all know how that turned out.
Apparently the second episode is much better.

I'm sure that isn't a coincidence. :)
