Jesus better protection against AIDS than condoms.

"You can't resolve [the African AIDS problem] with the distribution of condoms," the pope told reporters aboard the Alitalia plane headed to Yaounde. "On the contrary, it increases the problem."

But of course.

What...

I guess the Christian Saviour is made out of a stronger and more flexible material than latex.

"To demonstrate his faith, the pope then had anal sex with an infected AIDS patient, as he constantly yelled 'JESUS JESUS JESUS' and waved his hat in the air."

And what a glorious hat it is to wave.

Here we go again.

And in my mind, hundreds of AIDS patients leaped onto treadmills in brightly hued skinny jeans.

Well, you see the logic is this: Condoms promote sex, by making it seem safe. NOT having sex stops the propagation of AIDS. THEREFORE condoms help propagate AIDS.

This is, of course, ignoring the fact that people are more likely to be willing to use condoms than to be willing to not have sex, but that's the logic...

My point: It's really really dumb, but not batshit crazy insane.

The problem is that saying condoms promote sex is a fallacy, no more than wearing seat belts promotes reckless driving or purchasing homeowners insurance promotes leaving your doors and windows open and unlocked when you leave.

Yeah. People are gonna do it anyway, but if you make the safety devices easier to use and more available, they might just start using them.

Exactly. Regardless of my stance or level of squeamishness with what is going on, that doesn't mean that I should try to force my views on others (and this applies to so very many issues that I work for). It is more important that everyone gets the opportunity to be safe and thrive than that the whole world have the same viewpoint.

Well, Jesus cured the lepers. All he has to do is touch the AIDS victims, right? If only they could find where his bones are buried...

I really wish the Christians would get down off their high horses and face reality. Same goes for any other person who thinks his ways are the only ways. It's called tolerance, people. Try it sometime.
