Well, so what if you car was unlocked. You could have left it unlocked, with the windows rolled down, and a sign on it saying "Owner out of town for a month" and it STILL wouldn't make it okay for some asshole to take something from it. He or she is still a scumbag thief, no matter how easy you may have made it for him or her to take your stuff.

Dude ... that sucks sweaty monkey sack - I'm sorry to hear that. And I wouldn't beat yourself up too bad. It may not have been locked down with an industrial strength bank vault lock but doing due diligence everyday every time you leave the car ... c'mon. Humans are going to slip every once in a while and forget to lock.

However, I'll still wish ill on the thief.

This is all true. I'm just so damned irritated with myself that I made it so easy for them.

It is honestly my opinion that thieves should be executed. Clearly, they are unfit to partake in society.

Sorry you have to deal with that, man. I know well the powerless rage. But at least you don't have to drive to work with a window broken out.

This is very true -- I've been there (had someone break into my car about ten years ago, and they didn't break a window, but they ripped the lock out of my driver's side door with a chisel. Needed a new door, then they repainted the whole car to match. Thank god for insurance).

I think I've got mp3s of most of 'em, so it's not that huge a loss.

If only they knew what crap music is locked in the depths of that CD case. If they wanted to get any dollar value out of that whatsoever, they're sadly mistaken.

when I have the money, I'm going to have all of my cars come with a nerve gas dispenser; if the car's opened without the presence of my key fob, the car releases a toxin. And you know what? If I have that kind of money, I'm going to make a variable response system, so that someone who just opens the car because it was open gets hit with powerful knockout gas that makes them terribly, terribly nauseous, while someone who commits actual violence on my car gets hit with sarin gas.

If you want in on this, let me know.

My first thought was the faux commercial that was at the start of Robocop 2: an electrical antipersonnel device that shocks anyone who even touches my car to death. That would take care of those pesky people leaving flyers under your windshield wipers, too.
