Yes, that's an Ichigo icon. I don't have any MMPR ones yet. Honestly, I never thought there'd be a need. This is one of those fandoms where I have some...issues with writing in it. And by issues, I mean that I'm scared shitless. But RL issues are looming so much larger than anything online these days and Jason has always been one of my favorites, so.
Title: Tyrant Lizard King
Series: none
Word Count: 276
Rating: G
Disclaimer PostSummary: The T. rex isn't the only tyrant lizard, but that doesn't matter, because Jason only claims the king.
Notes: I've been watching a lot of dinosaur documentaries from the library lately. Like, a LOT. And while I thoroughly love how lots of writers have delved into the bond between ranger and power in season two and beyond (seriously, love it), I want to play with the dinos. Also, there's the previously mentioned dino-overload via library, so. What else? Oh! Fun fact: MMPR first aired in August of '93 and Jurassic Park came out in June of '93.
Tyrannosaurus means “tyrant lizard.” Tack on a “rex” and you’ve got Tyrannosaurus rex, the tyrant lizard king. Three months after taking up the Power and after more than a few trips to the relevant section of the library, Jason’s learned that the latter is a species name and the former is the genus. In other words, there’s more than one tyrant lizard out there. Jason didn’t research the others very much, though; he only claims the king.
It just feels right to name the power flowing through him after the most dangerous predator in a very dangerous time. After all, isn’t that what he’s become? He protects his own-team and townspeople alike-and defends his territory, no question. But he also eliminates his enemies with ruthless precision, and tolerates no other top predators within his borders. Danger threatens, Jason calls out to the power-his power, by its choice and by his-and the Tyrannosaurus rex roars from within him to take on all challengers.
It’s a dangerous balance he keeps, between the need to protect and the primal urge to kill. The predator inside Jason relishes the battles, rejoices in defeating his opponents. That part of him sees monsters in the shadows and hears invaders in every whisper of sound, all the while half-hoping and half-fearing that the specters in his imagination are real. The protector within him takes his joy from the quiet spaces between and the continued safety his efforts have brought his protected ones. This part of Jason-the truest part of him-places his hope in the day when the tyrant lizard king will fall silent for the last time.
