I don't know when the hell I picked up a Kenren icon, but it's good I did, all things considered. I pretty much mainlined Saiyuki Gaiden last night, and I have a piece of advice for anyone who's thinking of reading that series: don't start reading at two in the morning. God, I was zombified today.
Title: Take Your Life and Lay It Down
Word Count: 205
Rating: PG-ish
Obligatory Disclaimer: Y'all know the drill--I do not own Saiyuki.
Summary: Before the end, Kenren thinks about risks, and the responsibility of taking them.
Notes: Kenren's sentence structure makes me twitch, but he wouldn't let me change it. This is actually one of the last two Anything But Bleach prompts that I got over a year ago. Yeah, I'm that slow, sometimes.
nikita_cheri111 gave me a prompt for Saiyuki, Tenpou/Kenren, risks. This was actually the second idea I had, but the first isn't finished yet. Feedback would be very appreciated. Kenren is...slippery, sometimes.
We know all about risks, me and Tenpou. We’re soldiers, you know. It’s kind of our job, even up here. Maybe especially up here, what with that “no killing” bullshit.
Goku doesn’t. Not really. Too young, too inexperienced, too innocent, just too Goku. All the better. Kids aren’t supposed to know the kinda shit we do.
Konzen, he doesn’t know either. Not as well as he thinks, leastways. Gotta feel love to fear loss, and before Goku, Konzen just…didn’t. So says Tenpou, anyway. Time I met him, he’d already gotten all nice and attached. Goku does that to you. Walk a mile on a bed of nails if you can see him smile. Start a hopeless battle if it’ll save his life. Lie to his face if it keeps his heart from breaking.
Lay down your life to give him a chance to really live, wild and free and open like only Goku can.
Konzen’s starting to see now. Starting to see what Tenpou and I knew would have to happen. Sacrifices are gonna have to be made. Me and Tenpou, we’re soldiers. We’ll be the first to fall, but we won’t be the last.
Don’t call it risk. Call it freedom. Call it life.
