Is that the sound of hell freezing over?

Bending used to be a joy to Aang.  Before the Avatar, before the war, before he had to watch the people he cared about get hurt because he’d run away like a scared little boy when he’d needed to be a man.  Now he needed that joy, more than ever.  He needed a reason to keep pushing forward.

Toph had long ago given up ever understanding or properly hating Aang.  He hardly even seemed connected to the earth unless he was using its power and that just was just wrong.  But she understood that he needed them to remind him, occasionally, exactly what he was supposed to be doing.  So she smirked and fired another boulder at him in the name of training, and tried not to smile smugly at how much more alive he sounded when he was dodging instead of brooding.

Also, here are those Ichigo/Orihime bits, since it seems silly to do another post just for them.  The first two are actually Zanpakutou-verse Ichigo and Orihime, so it's kinda one-sided.  The last one is ungodly sappy and I can't believe I even wrote it.  *hides*

1. He'll never forgive himself for breaking her heart if he lives forever a thousand times over, but he'd sooner die than give her anything less than his all and that is no longer his to give.

2. After a week, she stops dreaming about him. Orihime loves her various fantasy worlds, but she's not foolish enough to think they'll ever measure up to what she's lost.

3. Orihime's smile in the rain is one of the most surreal things Ichigo has ever seen. It seems wrong somehow that her luminous grin can't take the place of the absent sun and light up the whole world.
