After watching Jem all day, I suppose this was inevitable. And hey, I have a Jem icon now.

Disclaimer PostSummary: You know what they say about secrets...sooner or later, they get out. Jerrica decides to take hers into her own hands.
Notes: I had a thought while I was devouring my Jem dvds today: Jerrica doesn't change her voice to become Jem. In fact, she sometimes answers the phone as Jem without using the hologram. So showing someone Synergy or the earrings or whatever might go a ways towards convincing them, but the real test--I think--would be for Jerrica to sing.
The lights are dark, the auditorium is empty and the speakers silent when Jerrica pulls Rio up onto the stage. “I’ve got something to show you,” she says, and gives him Jem’s mysterious smile. She takes off her earrings and places them in Rio’s palm. “Hold these.”
“Jerrica, what-”
One finger laid gently against his mouth is all it takes to silence him. “Trust me, Rio. I’m never going to lie to you again.”
In the silence that follows, she walks out to the center of the stage and takes up her position as if there’s a microphone in front of her and a band at her back. There’s no music to give her cues or any of the other things she usually takes for granted, but Jem’s musical talent doesn’t come from the same place as her wardrobe. When Jerrica sings…
I never meant to lie to you, I swear it
I never meant to play those games
…Jem’s voice comes through, pitch perfect. All that’s missing in this performance is the lie, the illusion. And she’ll keep the illusion for fans, the crowds, the media, for as long as she can, as long as they want her.
It’s time to put an end to this deception.
But she’s made a promise to Rio, and it’s one she intends to keep.
Oh, and if anyone's interested, here's the lyrics for Deception, the song I quoted, from season 1, episode 4. Also, when I was looking for the video to listen to while writing, I found it
here and
here.
Deception
How long must I continue this deception,
This masquerade
Deception
My life seems like it’s nothing but deception,
A big charade
I never meant to lie to you, I swear it
I never meant to play those games
At times I wanna cry to you
But I can’t bear it, and I fear our love will land in flames
Deception
I pray that you’ll forgive all this deception,
This masquerade
Deception
It’s time to put an end to this deception,
But I’m afraid
When the whole thing is at an end
And you learn that it’s just pretend
You’ll cry deception
I pray that you’ll forgive all this deception,
This masquerade
Deception
It’s time to put an end to this deception,
But I’m afraid
When the whole thing is at an end
And you learn that it’s just pretend
You’ll cry deception, deception
