Recipe: Beef with Oyster Sauce

Nov 13, 2008 09:07

This recipe comes from my Nga Boo (maternal grandmother), and I think it's the first thing I learned to cook. If you're vegetarian, you're out of luck.

Ingredients* Oyster sauce - you can find this in the Asian section of many grocery stores, or else find an Asian grocery store ( Read more... )

I'm just all about the typos today: you mean onion, not union in second paragraph of "Cook."

Sounds delish! I make similar stuff, but I've never marinated overnight -- gotta give it a try!

Wow, that sounds good. And easy! I am all about the easy cooking.

Lunch seems painfully far away at the moment.

Yeah, it is remarkably easy. You just need to find the oyster sauce and it's the magic ingredient. I've been thinking about adding mushrooms to it too.

couldn't you make it with tofu instead of beef? is oyster sauce non-vegetarian? it sounds delicious.

I suppose whether oyster sauce is vegetarian depends on your standards of vegetarianism. It certainly isn't kosher.

AFAIK oysters are a top ingredient in oyster sauce, so it wouldn't be vegan though it would be "pesco-vegetarian" or whatever you call it. Nor would it be kosher as seekingferret mentions.
