Huh. I got good responses. [ref]

To me only:

Hi Zandperl,

Thanks for writing this. I think it's particularly important in the case of [group name], where the majority of people want to eventually work in the game industry, for members to conduct themselves professionally.

With your permission, I'd like to read your email to my Game Industry class. I think that things like this probably come about just because some people aren't even thinking of the implications, and I'd like to do my part to force these actions into the conscious mind.

At any rate, if it's any consolation, now you know the reason why "real gamer guys" don't have girlfriends -- the sword cuts both ways, after all ;)

To everyone:

I'd like to apologize on behalf of us all if we made you feel uncomfortable at all, Zandperl. I was a part of the gathering you mentioned (we were watching this dota music video from Sweeden - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQ-TZk4gPKM and laughing at the absurdity of such a topic going mainstream) and I unfortunately didn't even think twice about the comment made at the time.

Interestingly enough the gender gap in computer science was actually our topic of discussion in "Social Issues in Computing" a few days ago. One thing I realized from that class was how the lack of women in these areas influenced our treatment of the few that try to break the cycle. And still, only a few days later my bad habits got the better of me.

For the ladies we have out there, as Zandperl has done, please don't hesitate to bring these things to our attention. It is really the only way we can realize and begin to correct the problem. If you feel uncomfortable in any way let us know, let the individual know, or let the officers know if need be and we will do what we can to make sure it doesnt happen again.

For everyone out there, remember that when you are at a [group name] event you speak on behalf of our organization. Game parties especially can have a very laid back atmosphere but we need to all remember to be as respectful as possible of things like gender, race, religion, etc. Especially in the company of strangers.

All that being said, the game party was indeed a very good time, and I hope to see everyone back next month along with some new faces!

Yay, I'm happy.

Now go check out the high-res version of that video, and the other one that's got a translation. They're quite amusing, and a good sound. And it's not only the girls in gaming that aren't that hot, but the guys aren't either, and NONE of us have moves like that. Though, the scene otherwise looked like that at PAX. ^_^
