not too far from where i live, there is a heron rookery in a big sycamore tree, with maybe 15-20 nests in the same tree. in the winter when the leaves are gone, it looks like a tree full of big beach balls.

He sat there for a long time... and I actually have a few where his eyes are closed and he's catching two winks. I saw another Heron fly by as I was watching this one. I almost always see Heron there... I think there are at least three that live along this stretch of the slough.
Ah... blue heron. I love them. We have a lot of herons here, as well as egrets and cowbirds. They always make me take a deep breath. They represent introspection, since they wade in and study the water while feeding.
