Sunday we went to Mochitsuki on Bainbridge Island. This is a traditional Japanese event where steamed, sticky rice is pounded into paste and then rolled into balls; sometimes with red bean paste or other ingredients. I did some (  photos and video )

Nice find and photos, I'm always looking for cultural events. A great opportunity to see diversity in our area.

this looks like fun. i wish we had something like this around here. about our only nod to ethnicity would be our use of the traditional japanese ace hardware buckets to hold our gear.

i always wanted to go to japan...maybe someday.

I imagine that everyone went away with bits of rice splatter after the pounding. I guess timing is everything for the fellow rearranging the poundee during the pounding.

I've never heard of such... but then, I'm 100% Polish
