Replace "meek" with "introverted", and this pretty much describes me too. These days, I spend way more time at cons peoplewatching or reading than trying to be social.
I completely agree on how hard it is to meet people who are authentic and worthwhile. Over my lifetime, I've been fortunate to find about the right number that I am satisfied with.
Still, it's disappointing to open the door to some people, only to have them half-ass a relationship (rapport, communication, constancy, and respect are important to me) that could potentially become a more meaningful friendship. After a while, I can only move on to make room for future potential buddies. I simply won't waste my time waiting anymore.
