Most of you know that I am generally antagonistic to romcom. Often times I watch these films and think, "Quit lying to me!" Especially if the heroine is particularly stupid, manipulative, or worse, pretty pretending to be plain. I kind of want to see this now, whereas I'd had no interest in it before.

But still not as much as I want to see the Thirty-nine Steps. =)

I recommend all the other films on this list far and away above the film itself. But I really liked the acknowledgment of the public/private split. It was the most intriguing aspect of an otherwise pedestrian film.

When we looked it up on Rotten Tomatoes I was shocked to see it got a whopping splat of 18%. It is not a good film, but surely in a genre that is stuffed with meaningless romance, it is also not THAT bad.

Ebert liked it, and I think his review is fair:
