Women's Suffrage turns 90...

Today is the anniversary of women winning the right to vote in the United States. Even though I knew about women's suffrage, it surprised me to learn that this right was only 90 years old. My grandmother was older than the right to vote! When I consider the relatively short period it's been with us, I feel a little more forgiving about the progress ( Read more... )

As an aside: I've been thinking lately about the mindblowing success of Title Nine, and how high school and college sports have become a totally normal, conventional, even conservative activity for women. Suffrage is the only piece of recent legislation that seems to compare.

I was about to say Roe v Wade... but it's still controversial unlike Title IX or The 19th Amendment.
