Thank you everyone who was sending good vibes/prayers/whatever. Although yesterday was stressful, everything just somehow seemed to fall into place. Things are worked out with my passport, I was able to catch my last ride to the other side of the country, and I'm now home with my family ( Read more... )

If you find that youtube vid, link me. I'd be interested in seeing it.

I definitely feel it, coming back to the US. The pace is a lot faster here. And hmmm... more careless? I was definitely uncomfortable with that. Still am.

Mmf, perhaps the US is more careless than Japan, but I hesitate to say the same about Panama. Can't tell if that's just a default attitude made because Panama's my home, or what.

Here's a link to a ten minute version of the speech, and heeere's a complete version of it.

Just finished watching the complete version of it.

I saw a lot of problems with his arguments, and really dislike the classism and the far too pat, easy categories as well as the consequences of being in one of those categories. However, he does have a good point about how important perceptions of time plays in our daily lives, and it's definitely something I can think about.

I don't remember most of his points--the only things that really stayed with me were what you mentioned, the possible ramifications of the ways time perceptions might affect our daily lives, as well as the general concept that different cities have different paces. I personally think that something as simple as walking/clerking/etc and the pace it's done at has way too many things behind it to be wrapped up in any neat explanation or conclusion, though. What's classism? Some kind of division of people into different social classes?
