Here's the situation-we have an officer (Captain Promotable) that is in a posting at the Pentagon and he DOES NOT WANT to be there at all. He want to get tranfered to a combat unit, specifically a 1st SFOD-D posting (he was previously in the unit, but got stuck just long enough on medical leave that the guy in the Pentagon snatched him up ( Read more... )

He needs to suck it up and do his staff time, or he'll never go back to SpecOps again.

Explanation-he got injured during a tour in one of those places that ends with "-stan" and got himself in the hospital long enough to be put on the medical list. When he got out, he was going to get back to a field posting-he was going to get his CGSC time at the actual school when they had their next opening. He got snagged into this...little branch office of Hell because the guy in charge if it is a ring knocker in all the worse ways and played the WPPA to the hilt.

He doesn't mind doing staff time. Hell, he'd even do it at the Pentagon, even though he hates the place and Washington DC. He just wants to be so far away from his current CO that he needs somebody with a satellite to see the CO.

1) Resign his commission, which is throwing his career away forever.

2) Try and hurry his promotion, which would (frequently, not sure if it's always) put him into a new position.

3) Make influential friends who can write him new orders.

4) Why does he dislike the ringknocker? Can said ringknocker be relieved or reposted?

1)He likes being in the Army. Honestly so. He wouldn't even mind being in DC-even though he hates the town.

2)With the current CO, he's going to be dreading his OER. Previously, he's had "doesn't walk on water because he usually walks on clouds" OERs. The feeling he's getting is that the CO is going to give him a horrible OER.

3)Let's just say the current posting with the horrible CO is the sort of office that is basically the sort of place that in a bad movie that is the dumping ground of people they need to keep in the Army, to do minimal damage. If he's there, clearly he did something wrong...even if he didn't.

4)Said CO is the nightmare of any Army officer whom hasn't had the mandatory lobotomy and spinal removal hitting Major-somebody that is the ultimate proof of the Peter Principal that a)knows where the bodies are buried, b)knows how to work the WPPA, c)has friends on the Hill, and d)is in the current posting because it's the one spot which can keep him happy and do the least amount of damage.
