Well maybe not. Its a hard design to play with. I guess you have to stick with the green because of the chip color. If you want to do a blue you need to find one the same tone as the green, which is not easy. Something about the blue is bothering my retinas. Maybe its the monitor.
I had to check back again and see what my opinion was. Perhaps I will print it and see what I can see.
I think I prefer the soft shadow in general. I also really like the green background, and the subtle PCB tracing.. That blue, however, is really a bit too much for that background. I would really recommend something a little less contrasting.. or maybe just a little darker..
From a practical perspective, I would also recommend putting a bit more of a break between the "ZP" letters and the "Enterprises" box. That thin line is going to completely disappear when you print it in any medium with any significant bleeding or registration issues (which most print media, for example, does have). Putting them that close together also undermines some of the effectiveness of the drop-shadow, IMHO.
Oh, and "Enterprises" really should be centered in the box.. (that's one of my personal pet peeves when people do things like this, actually)
I thought the blue might be a bit much, but I think a bit of that will fade when it's printed. Although, I should tone it down for the web site as a full blue seems to be too bright for some monitors. I'm using a LCD which isn't quite as bright. I should check it on a CRT.
Good point on the break. Originally, the "ZP" and the box were different shades of gray.
The "Enterprises" was intentionally offset to leave room for an "Inc.", "LLC", or some such thing. But now that you mention it, it looks a little weird offset.
I'll play with it when I get home. I need to stop for ink on my way home, so I can print it properly.
*tee hee* I didn't think anyone would catch the font, but I do like the font and not just for the name. ;) I've printed sooo many copies I've long lost count. The problem with printers is that they use a different color space which doesn't quite include that blue. So, it comes out quite a bit darker when printed. I've been posting most of the variations to here. Feel free to have a look. I've added a few new ones. It's still not quite ready for primetime.
I just posted the PhotoShop files, too. zp-logo-14.jpg was created by the current settings in zp_logo2.psd. It prints well at both the 1" and 8" sizes. Although, it prints quite a bit darker. Email me at zpe at zpenterprises dot com with questions/comments/better logos. :)

Why do you always have to be so difficult?

You should have seen the first version with color. OMG, "Enterprises" was only readable if you squinted or scaled it way up.
Slightly larger versions: Soft shadow Hard shadow
