...for those of you who have seen more reboot Doctor Who than I have: How is the actress who plays Martha Jones' sister (Gugu Mbatha-Raw)?

She and Boris Kodjoe (which together amounts to serious eye candy) are starring in a new show this fall--a comic action/adventure spy drama that i am much intrigued by. Trailer is here.

I have totally fallen for ( Read more... )

Undercovers is one of my must-sees this fall! It's unprecedented on many many levels.

Tish's part in Who wasn't exactly huge but I thought Gugu was pretty good in it. Her extreme hotness doesn't hurt. So yeah, I'm pretty excited. Abrams is hit or miss for me - I quickly lost interest in LOST, Alias got annoying over time... and Cloverfield sucked, though I love Fringe and Star Trek. As far as I know he's never done anything like this - unless you count Alias for the spy factor.

But seriously. Two hot black leads headlining an NBC primetime series? I'm so there, and I'm already crossing my fingers for it to be given a fair shot/not to be canceled prematurely.

You said it. Girl looks good shooting a gun.

The only Abrams I've seen, tbh, is Star Trek, and while I loved certain aspects of it I was pretty meh overall. I'm hoping that his name alone will force the network to give it a fair shot. From what I can tell the early buzz is that it's very cute, comic, and the leads have good chemistry--watchable, if not deep. I will gladly sacrifice deep to watch Mbatha-Raw and Kodjoe.

And like you say, it's historic, and a tremendous chance to watch hot black leads own the story and have fun. Will look forward to comparing further notes when it comes out!

I am super excited for Undercovers! I've watched a bunch of JJ's shows, and as long as I 1) don't expect plotlines to be followed up on (that man drops more interesting ideas on the floor than most shows have) and 2) don't expect them to exist in the reality based community (ie suspend the hell out of my disbelief), they tend to be pretty fun, outrageous, and with great costumes. & he has consistently had POC in his casts, tho this'll be the first where they're the sole leads I believe. The 2 leads for Undercovers are smokin' and I sure hope the show is half as fun as it looks.

Mbatha-Raw: I've only seen her as Tish, and while I liked her, the role hardly required much range, so I really couldn't tell.

Some guy named JJ Abrams: I like most of the stuff he's done (Alias, Fringe, Star Trek XI) or was involved with at some point(Lost). I think you could describe most of his work as relationship driven sci-fi craziness.

I am SO EXCITED for Undercovers! :D Serious eye candy is too right, omg.

This fall there seems to be more TV featuring characters of color than I was expecting: I am also planning to check out Nikita for the extreme hotness of Maggie Q; Grace Park and Daniel Dae Kim are going to be on Hawaii Five-O, but I'm not sold on that one just yet; Outsourced could be interesting although I'm kind of apprehensive about the white-guy-going-to-India business...
