I myself have wondered at the impact of the influx of photographers, both in terms of quality, competition and financial detriment to all.
One of the struggles of any small business, is NOT undermining your market as a primary means of both supporting the industry, and ensuring your own contributary value to the industry.

The articles you did were well-written and thorough. But it is always a humbling experience to spend time with others who are just "that much" ahead of us.

Your observations were spot-on. I have to say I truly enjoyed your growth as a writer of things automotive. And, on the subject of getting paid to write, I'm not sure on the word-count of my Motor Trend article (c. 1974) but I received the princely sum of $ 200 for it. Didn't get a cent for the water-color painting of the '67 Tempest in front of the junkyard, tho...

having grown up arouind art and artists, there's always a learning curve factor too... don;t forget that. sylard/darrell once summed it up well. that item that took you an hour to craft at $15/hr does eventually become an item that takes you 15 minutes and earns you a better return.
