Livejournal mass deletions

I hadn't heard about this through traditional news channels but through the meta-lj channel.

My cynical thought is that he realized it would hurt the bottom line. His prior remarks defended the action. It isn't the first time that I've seen the lj-abuse team react without much thought but in lesser cases without a huge public, newsworthy outcry, no one gives a damn.

I'm glad that cooler heads prevailed. I'm glad they're going to try to fix things. But it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I just can't get worked up that a private business decided what they do and don't want as a part of their business.

The folks who are screaming about "freedom of speech" obviously have no idea what that means.

Those who are crying about how they are a sexual minority and "they might be targetted next" are just offensive. It's the internet. There is a big difference between not getting to write erotica on the internet and actually, you know, being oppressed.

People who are whining that they spent money for their lj accounts to read fanfic and now can't read it...well, uh, it's hard not to laugh. But, then again, it's hard to take anyone seriously when they are whining about how they are suffering because they dont' have their wank material of choice. It's wank material. Not food. Or shelter. It's pleasure.

Well, I can get worked up about it to the extent that I make decisions about what services I will use and where my money is spent. I agree that businesses can make any choices they want to and I can also vote with my feet if I disagree with their policies.

Agreed on the "freedom of speech" thing, but that's a common misconception. In fact, that "right" is probably the least understood of them all. It's a poor reflection on our school system.

Anyway, brouha seems to be resolved for now.

I absolutley agree with you. If people don't like their policies, they can go somewhere else. It's reading people gettin' hysterical because they feel they have the right to post whatever they please that is is gettin' under my skin.

I've spent this entire morning dealing with trying to get a bone marrow transplant for a woman who has 4 children under the age of 7 and is going to be dead really soon if she doesn't get the procedure. Going from that to people acting like they are going to die because they can't write and read their porn-of-choice just really just makes me hate humanity right now. :(

I'm obviously just too grumpy today.

Journals being restored

As promised below we have reviewed the journals that have been suspended and are now in the midst of unsuspended about half of them.
The class of suspensions that are being reversed are;
1. All Fandom journals
2. All fiction journals
3. All journals who that had problems in their profile only

A large number of journals that are clear violations of our policies will remain suspended.

I will write a post in more detail soon but I wanted to get this up now as promised.
We are truly sorry for the mess, we have more work yet to do.

It's good to know that reason prevailed, though I can't help but wonder about what seems to be his change of heart.

Thanks for keeping me posted.
