So the plan was to release two simulataneously, but my iTunes libarary corrupted itself and I lost the companion mix playlist. Bullshit, that's what I say, but what are you going to do?
Shoot Me Now
from the iPod of Head Detective Carlton Lassiter
Wait, would Lassi have an iPod?
Sure, a gift from someone. A niece or cousin. Maybe co-worker.
But would he know how to use it?
He's an SBPD Detective--Head Detective, he knows how to use a computer... hopefully.
But Lassi's so hardcore, he doesn't listen to music!
Which is why his music education halted mid-college, around 1990 or so.
I have then taken the liberty to prescribe a music taste for our dear little Lassi,
based more or less off of what/who was popular, and Tim's preference for Kajagoogoo.
I see Lassi as knowing all those great popular 70s and 80s hits that we still
hear today, yet more so as the guy that liked the singles off an album but
loving the other tracks. So that's where I came up with what would be on
our Head Detective's iPod. Think of this as the Top 15 Played playlist.
And yes, a certain amount of this was made with his sentiments in mind. Most of it
is meant to reflect what songs and bands he would listen to, but we all tend
to play and replay songs that we identify with, am I wrong? I sense Lassi feels
he's going a bit crazy as of late, what with everything going on all around him.
I Think I'm Going Mad - The Rolling Stones
("She Was Hot" Single B-side, 1983)
You ought to see my shaking hands
I think I've been drinking lots of cups of coffee
I think I've lost my head
I think I should be sacrificed
I think I should be put to rest
Too Shy - Kajagoogoo
(Tim Omundson Tribute, 1982)
Tongue tied, too short of breath to even try
Try a little harder
Something's wrong, you're not naive
You must must be strong
Stages - ZZ Top
(Afterburner, 1985)
Then you left me standing all alone,
I couldn't even get you on the phone.
Were you just confused and didn't know
if you should stay or if you had to go?
Peace of Mind - Boston
(Boston, 1976)
Now you're climbin' to the top of the company ladder
Hope it doesn't take too long
Can'tcha see there'll come a day when it won't matter
Come a day when you'll be gone
Dead or Alive - Journey
(Escape, 1981)
Wanted, wanted
Wanted dead or alive
Blood for money, money
Assault, homicide
Blood for money, money
Money, money
Oh, yeah, wanted
Goin' Crazy - David Lee Roth
(Eat 'Em and Smile, 1986)
I wanna live it up, wanna quit my job,
Tell the boss to go to hell.
I ain't complainin', you do the best with what you got.
I know you're laughin' 'cause it's easy to tell
You Got Another Thing Comin' - Judas Priest
(Screaming for Vengence, 1982)
That's right here's where the talkin' ends
Well listen this night there'll be some action spent
Drive hard I'm callin' all the shots
I got an ace card comin' down on the rocks
Cold as Ice - Foreigner
(Foreigner, 1977)
I've seen it before
It happens all the time
Closing the door
You leave the world behind
Nobody's Fault but Mine - Led Zeppelin
(Presence, 1976)
Got a monkey on my back
Gonna change my ways tonight
Nobody's fault but mine
Burning Bridges - Pink Floyd
(Obscured by the Clouds, 1972)
Beyond the gilded cage,
Beyond the reach of ties.
The moment is at hand.
She breaks the golden band.
Execution Day - Meat Loaf
(Blind Before I Stop, 1986)
I stare in the mirror
My eyes refuse to blink
Sympathy for me
Hell I can't even think
I'm Going Slightly Mad - Queen
(Innuendo, 1991)
I'm not my usual top billing
I'm coming down with a fever
I'm really out to sea
I think I'm a banana tree
Oh dear
Psycho Killer - The Talking Heads
(Talking Heads: 77, 1977)
I can't seem to face up to the facts
I'm tense and nervous and I
Can't relax
I can't sleep 'cause my bed's on fire
Don't touch me I'm a real live wire
Won't Get Fooled Again - The Who
(Who's Next, 1971)
There's nothing in the street
Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left
Is now the parting on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight
I Wanna Be Sedated - The Ramones
(Road to Ruin, 1978)
Just get me to the airport put me on a plane
Hurry hurry hurry before I go insane
I can't control my fingers I can't control my brain
Oh no no no no no

So there you have it, Lassiter's songs. I hope they all seem okay. I used Tim's own age as a reference, and my mother. She was all, well, I listened to this and this and this when I was growing up. Pink Floyd was always around and la ti da. So thanks, Mom, even though you'll never read this.
Let me know what you all think! I worked hard on this one, and I'm pretty proud of it. Look for the Shawn Spencer iPod mix soon.... tomorrow, maybe the next day. I just need to remember what was on it....
