"It finally happened"

Well, it was hinted at before, but looks like Borat will be playing Farrokh Bulsara . . .

Sascha Baron Cohen to play Freddie Mercury in movie

. . . going to be weird trying to suspend disbelief at a 6'4" Freddie!

In related news, is this the least popular Queen song?

Somebody to Love

I uploaded that two years ago, and it only has 80 views!

Nah, there are plenty that I think would rate less popular Queen songs than that one. Heck, it merits Disc 1, Track 10 on the three disc Greatest Hits collection that I own.

I can see Cohen playing Mercury if it's just acting and speech... not as much on the singing front but that's due to Mercury's strength as a singer instead of a weakness on Cohen's part.

Well, it's not as bad a casting as say . . . Leonardo DiCaprio as Frank Sinatra XD

Just that Freddie = 5'9", Cohen = 6'4"

Unless the rest of the cast is over 6 feet, it's gonna look weird!

There were rumors of this ages ago. I have to wonder how reputable this news source is!

And goodness no, Somebody to Love is like THE most covered Queen song. I don't really like it nearly as much as several other songs by them, but everyone else seems to. Do you have other Queen videos up? I mean, there are surely countless videos of Somebody to Love up already...

At the time when I uploaded it, there was only one other upload of "Somebody to Love", but my version had better audio than that one!

Should be reputable since it's Reuters . . . one of the largest worldwide news sources!

Haha, oh, I didn't really check the link. Well, we'll see if something actually comes of it this time!

Hopefully they'll do it respectfully. A bad TV movie about Michael Jackson came out with an actor that was clearly WAY taller than MJ really was -- and it was really, really distracting.

It could work! kintarooe September 28 2010, 04:36:22 UTC
I could definitely see Cohen as Freddie. Aside from what I think about the guy personally, he's got mad charisma and stage presence. He ruled in Sweeney Todd, and even managed to give that ridiculous role a smidge of complexity. As the biggest Queen fan I've ever met, I give it my stamp of approval. Plus I'm sure Brian and Roger have given it their blessing for it to move forward.
