...So how is the manga in comparison to the anime? Is it pretty much the same, or one of those instances where the creators of the anime just took the idea and went in their own direction, so the two are completely different?
I've only been watching the anime, I haven't read the manga yet, so just curious. ;3
More or less the same for a lot of stories, actually! Some of them were trimmed to fit the episode time, sometimes they change little things, and there are a few anime-only episodes (like the most recent one), but otherwise, it's pretty accurate.
As I have read up until volume 6 (and aside from the first 8 chapters or so, I forget, everything is RAW-I still need to read the 7th one as I have it), the manga has the exact same storyline, but, first of all, manga is just a tiny bit more detailed, if you will. Natsume's decision to take care of the Yuujinchou is explained more comprehensively, or in the episode where Natsume is followed by that Black Shadow thingie (where Hinoe appeared), in the end he does go on picnic. Storm in Heaven usually drop manga once it's licensed. That's what they did with Silver Diamond at least.
Viz are usually good at having their manga at $9.99 or less though. I'm really excited about this. SiH are a great scanslation group &hearts &hearts, but not much of Natsume have been released by them, and I'd really like to be able to read this in English, my Japanese skills are just not up to par yet.
Well, considering how the Natsume manga doesn't have anything controversial (coughFMAcough), hopefully VIZ will do a good job on this one. I've already got the Japanese versions, but I support the artist, so I'll get the books when they come out next year too.

Also, OT, but what ep is your icon frooom? It's so cute! I don't remember seeing that in the anime (though I could just not remember it being there).
