I think it's equal parts growing up to discover that there are many more ways to be interesting than we initially thought, and just running out of fucks to give about being interesting in the first place. You're not here to cater to people for their interest and attention - you're here to do whatever the fuck makes you happy.

I think you're probably right. While I do feel a lot more confident in general, I think at least part of that has come from the kind of "meh, fuck you if you're not down with me" attitude that I started to grow after being dumped, and which came to full fruition in the last week or so of working my last job. I do also have just enough teenage vanity left to really feel that I'm a unique and interesting person, though. :)

It's an attitude that I'll admit I'm still working to cultivate, though I've certainly made a lot of progress since my teens. (Or even early twenties, frankly.) I still have my issues, but I'm doing my best to give fewer and fewer fucks about other peoples' opinions.

Yeah, it's definitely an evolving thing. I think I would put it in the same category as "things it turned out my mother was right about." There seem to be more and more of those, the older I get.

This occasionally leads to random dudes on the internet dubbing me "bitter and cynical about meeting new people," but fuck them. In the words of my favorite video game pirate: "They don't know me; I know me."
