“Ne, Jin, look!” Kazuya waved at him as Jin entered the room and got up from his knees.

The older one turned his head to him and frowned at the sight. Kazuya just got up from the floor and in his arms he carried something small and fluffy… Jin recognized it as a puppy and went over to him.

“What’s that?” he asked, though he had already figured it out. It was a rare sight at a photo shooting set after all.

“One of the staff members just got that puppy and can’t leave it alone at home, so he brought it here.” Kazuya gently rubbed his cheek at the puppy’s head. “Isn’t it just too cute?”

Jin couldn’t resist smiling. He reached his hand out to pat the dog. “Yeah, it is. Hello there…” he said then and leaned in to get closer. “What’s its name?”

“Kuro.” Kazuya answered and gave it to Jin so that the other one could hold it for a while.

The black, little dog yelped happily as Jin cuddled it and tried to lick the brunette’s chin.

Nakamaru and Koki came in next and it didn’t take long until they noticed the dog as well and they gathered around it to play with the puppy.

Junno had been there for a little longer but he didn’t pay as much attention as the others did. He joined them though watching how they played with the dog and patted it for a few times.

As usual it was Ueda who was late at the scene and he rushed into the room, breathing heavily as if he had run. No one took notice of him and he wondered what the guys were doing sitting on the floor.

He went over and looked over Jin’s shoulder. “Oh, a puppy!” He said and bumped into their circle to get closer. “Who does it belong to?”

“One of the staff’s” Koki answered and watched how Ueda lifted it from the floor to have a closer look. “It won’t get much bigger.”

“Sadly… I like big dogs better.”

“But the small ones are so much cuter…” Kazuya stated and stood up again. Since they were all here now the shooting would begin soon. And he knew if he was going on to play with Kuro any more he’d get addicted. He’d wanted to have a dog for a while now and that black, little puppy looked just like he imagined his own dog. He wanted exactly one like that.

Jin noticed how Kazuya looked at the dog and turned around then. Sometimes his best friend was really nothing more than a little boy. The way he looked at the puppy showed all of his feelings and Jin knew that Kazuya now felt the need to get himself a dog as well.

They liked dogs, but they had busy lives and so it would be a huge burden to take in a dog.

It was a decision he couldn’t make just out of an impulse; it was something one had to think about for a longer while. He knew Kazuya loved animals, but an own one… he wasn’t sure if the other one could take that responsibility.

But on the other hand he knew that Ueda managed to have three dogs, so why shouldn’t Kazuya be able to manage keeping one small one?

Kazuya threw him a look and Jin smiled. “Don’t even think of it, Kame” he just said.

The younger one pouted and turned around. “I don’t know what you mean.”

“A dog?”

“Mhm” Jin nodded. “Isn’t there a place you can get them from?”

“Sure.” Yamapi took a sip from his coffee and leaned back. “Just go to a pet shop.”

Jin couldn’t believe it was that easy to get a dog. Weren’t there at least a few difficulties to take a dog in? He couldn’t imagine they could just go into a shop, choose a dog and leave again.

“Would you come with me? I think I don’t want to go alone…”

The other one nodded. “Sure.” It seemed it was the only answer he was able to give. Then Yamapi frowned a little. “I didn’t know you want to have a dog.”

“Ah, no, don’t get the wrong idea.” Jin stood up to pull over his jacket and to leave. “It’s not for me.”

“For who is it then?” Yamapi wanted to know as he left the money at the table.

The other one pretended not to hear the question and went ahead. It didn’t take them too long to get to a pet shop and Jin stopped in front of the door, looking slightly confused. “And we can just go in and buy one and then leave again?”

“Yes, it’s that easy, don’t worry.” Yamapi grinned and went inside. Jin just looked after him for a moment, not quite happy that it was that obvious that he was so nervous about it.

But somehow he thought it was a good idea. Kazuya wouldn’t go; he wouldn’t dare to, but Jin knew that the other one really wanted a dog and he didn’t see any reason why he shouldn’t have one.

Even clumsy Ueda managed it, so Kazuya wouldn’t have any problems. Only, someone had to make the first step for him and push him in the direction a bit.

He sighed and followed his friend inside then.

The first thing Jin saw as he entered the building where huge windows. There were different animals behind each. He went over to one window and watched some cats. Most of them were sleeping, so he got bored of them and went over to his friend.

“What kind of dog did you have in mind?” Yamapi asked as they entered another room. “They mostly sell the little ones here, like poodles, dachshunds and such.”

Jin followed and looked at the dogs which had all quite huge cages, but lots of them were in that big room next door. “A small one is fine; that’s more what I’m looking for. I think only Ueda is brave enough to have such big ones.”

The other male didn’t answer, but just went into the next room, where lots of dogs were running around and playing, sleeping or just sitting in a spot watching their surrounding.

“That one!” Jin suddenly said as he spotted a black one that was still very small and clumsily made it’s way to them.

“You’ve already decided?” Yamapi asked and got to his knees to pat another dog.

The brunette nodded and went over to the little black dog. It looked exactly like Kuro, the one from the other day Kazuya liked so much. “It’s the perfect one.”

A woman that was working in the pet shop carefully came over and stopped in front of Jin. “You like that little, black one?”

Jin got up from his knees and nodded. “I’d like to take that one.”

“Of course” She smiled.

He turned to Yamapi. “Let’s go and buy some stuff for it” He said, unusually excited. Then he turned back to the woman. “Is it okay if I come back tomorrow? Could you arrange it that no one else is going to buy this one?”

The woman nodded. “You just have to fill in some papers.”

Yamapi came over and looked at the dog. He already had a clue why Jin wanted to buy a dog so suddenly. It was Kazuya’s birthday in a few days. “You think he’s going to like that one?”

“Of course! It’s just like…” He stopped and looked at Yamapi with big eyes. “You know?”

“He’s your best friend and his birthday is in two days. Who else should it be?”

A little embarrassed Jin touched his temple. “Ah, well... I thought... you know, I’ll buy it and everything. But could we probably give it to him together? I don’t want him to get the wrong idea.”

Yamapi thought about that for a moment, but then he nodded with a serious look in his eyes. Jin had thought the other one would make fun of him, but instead of that he seemed to understand his feelings. “Sure.”

Jin just nodded as well, not showing how relieved he was. “Okay.”

The woman came back with a few papers and held it in front of Jin. “You just have to fill this in. You can get it tomorrow then.”

Jin took the papers and started to fill in the gaps, as he suddenly hesitated for a few seconds. “A name…?”

Yamapi looked at the papers as well. “Hmm…”

“Well…” Jin said after a while. “Since it’s a present from the both of us, let’s call him Pin.”

Yamapi laughed. “That’s cute.”

With that decision made Jin filled everything in and then lifted the little dog up to his arms once more. “See you tomorrow, cute Pin-chan. You’re going to be the best present ever.”

“Kame, Kame, Kame-chan!!!” Koki came from behind them and took the place between them as he nearly jumped over the couch Kazuya and Jin were sitting on.

Kazuya laughed at how energetic Koki was. He liked that about the older one a lot; he always seemed to be full of energy and in a cheerful mood. “What’s the matter?”

“Are you going to celebrate tomorrow? What are we going to do?”

“Eh? I thought you were going to plan a party for me…”

Koki looked slightly puzzled. Then he turned his head and thought for a moment. “As a surprise for your birthday..?”

“It’s usually done like that.” Kazuya pouted and looked at Jin. “Ne, Jin… you guys really didn’t plan a party for me?”

Jin sighed and shook his head. “I totally forgot it’s your birthday…”

“Eh?!” Kazuya and Koki now said in sync.

Kazuya then just stood up and took his bag that he had placed at the table earlier. “Well, I’ll get myself something nice for my birthday today.”

With a curious look Koki leaned back. “Really? What?”

“I want a dog.”

Now Jin’s tension raised and he sat up, looking at Kazuya. “A dog?”

“Yeah, I’ll buy one today; as a present for myself.” The younger one answered and went towards the door.

“That’s cool. Show it to us tomorrow? I’m curious!” Koki just said.

“Of course, I’ll bring it tomorrow. We can all play with it then!”

“Wait, wait!” Jin got up as well and rushed over to the brunette. “Why today? Isn’t it better to get one after your birthday?”

“What’s your problem?” Kazuya asked, slightly pouting.

“It’s not your birthday today! Getting presents today brings bad luck!”

He just raised an eyebrow. “You’re not serious, are you?”

“I’ll come with you then.” Jin decided.

Now Kazuya’s face lightened up. “Really? You’ll help me to find the right one?”

“Of course.”

Excited Kazuya took Jin’s arm and tugged him out of the room. Koki remained sitting at the couch looking after them, just a bit concerned. Jin’s behaviour had been really strange in his opinion.

In Jin’s opinion it was more than just strange. He behaved like a little boy. But how was he supposed to tell Kazuya that he couldn’t get himself a dog today, when he would get one from Jin just tomorrow?

“It should be around here…” Kazuya looked around a corner and pointed at a building Jin knew just too well. “That’s it. There’s the pet shop I was told of!”

Thinking about what he could do, Jin followed Kazuya into the building and to the rooms where the dogs were.

“Ne, Jin, that one is so cute, look, it has those spots!” Kazuya lifted a little brown dog with black spots and cuddled it.

“Doesn’t suit you.” Jin just answered.

Slightly confused Kazuya put it back to his feet and got over to the next one. “But isn’t this interesting?”

“Probably.” The dark brunette answered and pretended not to be interested. “But it’s really not that special.”

“And this one?” The next dog was almost black with silver strands.

“Looks like my Otoo-san.”

“Eh?” Kazuya gave it a closer look. He patted it once more before he put it back. “Which one do you like then?”

That was a bad question. Jin had planned to just have something against every dog Kazuya would choose. So there was just one thing he could say: “None of them.”

Kazuya just shook his head and laughed slightly. “It’s just like you really just wouldn’t like me to pick a dog. I know you find all of them cute.”

As he bent down once more Jin gave him a glance, but then turned his head quickly to the younger one as he picked up Pin.

“Aw, look, Jin!” Kazuya hold the little dog close, which seemed all excited. “It came to me all on its own!”

“Ah…” Jin thought his heart was going to stop beating if Kazuya would decide for Pin. But then he recognized another little dog, sitting all alone in the corner behind Kazuya. He recognized it as a dachshund and wondered why it was so different from the other dogs. It wasn’t coming over, it didn’t play around and it seemed as if it was afraid of everything surrounding it.

“Ne, Jin…” The younger male turned to him, but noticed Jin’s look then. His look followed Jin’s and he spotted the small dog in the corner. For a moment he stood just still, Pin in his arms and watching that little dog.

“It seems like it’s frightened by everything.” Kazuya said and put Pin back down.

Jin nodded and then made a surprised noise as the little black dog clumsily went over to that dog. They both watched how they sat together and Pin started to rub his head against the other dog’s.

“Except for that black one.” Kazuya said then.

“Those two are always together.” A voice from behind suddenly said and Jin was relieved that it didn’t belong to the woman from yesterday, but to another one.

“But I guess, I have to separate them.” Kazuya answered and smiled.

“You want to take that black one? But...”

“No, Jin, the other one.”

Jin couldn’t refuse to stare at his friend. “Are you sure? Don’t you… I mean, just wait a little longer, think about it…”

“No.” Kazuya glanced over to the two dogs and smiled. “There won’t show up a better one than this.”

Jin couldn’t believe that that happened, as he watched Kazuya leave with the woman to fill in all papers and handle the payments. He had not even touched that dog so far! How could he be that sure?

He sighed heavily as he went over and picked up Pin. “I can’t believe he bought that one, after I just bought you yesterday.” He cuddled the dog a bit and then carefully reached out to touch the dog Kazuya had chosen.

“Ah, you came to pick Pin up.”

Jin turned his head and saw the woman from the other day and nodded then. He had bought the dog; he had given him a name. It was impossible not to take him in. “Yeah… it’s time to get him home.”

He followed the woman to her office again and signed all the final papers. As he came back, someone had brought Pin out of the room already. He went over and patted it, smiling a bit at how happy it made the little dog.

“Don’t tell me…” He turned around and saw Kazuya coming out of another office, the other dog in his arms.

Jin raised a shoulder. “You took his best friend away. We can’t possibly leave it behind all alone, can we?”

It took a while, but then Kazuya smiled, lowered his head as he laughed. “We can’t.”

Jin pointed at Kazuya’s dog. “What’s his name?”

“Her name is Ran-chan. And yours?”

“Pin.”

The older one could see how it worked in Kazuya’s brain, wondering how Jin had chosen that name. “Sounds like a mixture of Pi and Jin.”

“I thought that was funny.” He still remembered what Kazuya had said that night when he had been drunk. It wasn’t like that at all, but this situation made it seem like the younger one had been right. “It’s short and uncomplicated and...”

“Mhm” Kazuya nodded. “It’s cute.”

Jin didn’t dare talking about that any longer. “They want to take a photo.” He just said and led Kazuya over to a wall were they’ve been photographed with Ran-chan and Pin.

After that they left the shop again and as they walked down the street the sun was setting and Jin noticed it was a bit too cold for a February evening.

“Ne, Jin…” Kazuya turned to his friend. “It’s really good you bought Pin. We should not have left him behind.”

Jin gave him a smile. ”It would have been a shame.”

“But now they can be together forever; for the rest of their lives.”

“Eh?” Jin stopped and looked confused at Kazuya.

The brunette stopped as well and turned around completely. “They’ll always be together, since there’s no way the both of us will ever separate.”

Jin watched as Kazuya turned back again and went on; towards the sunset that seemed warm, even though the evening was so cold. He wasn’t able to move or to even just take his eyes off of the sight.

All memories came back. How they first met, how they became friends, what they did together. All the nights they spent together with talking. Christmas and that night when Kazuya had begged Jin to stay with him. How they had been innocently holding hands for so many times; how Kazuya used to retreat to him, relied on Jin, gave him all his trust.

All that was still on his mind and Jin realized that those memories were the most precious ones he had.

He actually was in love with Kazuya.
