A little post about ze haters...

So this is a little unusual and out of the way for me but since this is a journal, I should be able to air my feelings out here and there's currently something I really want to talk about.

The main reason that I heart the existence of fandoms is because they allow you to feel like you're a part of something and to help you share your love for ( Read more... )

The literal definition of 'meta' is 'self referential' like a tv show that references the fact that it's a tv show, but in fandom it's used to when you're analyzing a show or a part of a show.

Thank you! I was trying to figure it out so I wouldn't have to ask someone and seem like a n00b but I couldn't - the closest thing I came up with was metaphorical talk or something like that. I have been schooled - gracias.

You're very welcome. 'Meta' was a word that I just heard used over and over and formed my own definition for, and then later learned the literal meaning.

:) I'm really glad someone shares my view on things like this. Rudeness/haters and the like have always rubbed me the wrong way. Whenever I see it happen (i.e. vile comments, putting people down for things they have rights to), I'm just repulsed. In fact, I recently read in article that debated just how hostile people on the internet were, and whether it'll degenerate into completely that in the future. It saddens me greatly to hear people can be so mean. Sometimes, I can't believe that's how they act; because when did that behavior become acceptable? Apologies for my own ranting (but I saw what you wrote up there ^ and I'm glad you decided not to delete it ( ... )

Hey, someone actually read this? yumi_maki July 19 2008, 02:46:54 UTC
Honestly, I don't think it will degenerate simply because it isn't accepted behaviour and as long as we continue to discourage it in society, that shouldn't happen. There have always been rude people and the anonymity that the internet allows just allows them to be more vocal.

Well, I've never actually checked them out so I wouldn't know but I'm glad to hear that - it just goes to show that people can at least disagree with something in a civil way. That's actually kind of encouraging. But yes, a lot of people do cross the line - I like to think though that they're the minority.
