I love reading other people's comparisons of shows, but I feel like they're difficult to write myself. It's hard enough when you have a clear preference for one interpretation of the role or another, but it's just as difficult when you like all of them or have some degree of like for all of them to lay out those feelings in a way that makes sense. And then there's shows that have been done so many times, like Elisabeth or Berubara... Of course I have preferences but to be honest the things I like or dislike tend to kind of run together between so many shows that it's hard to keep things straight sometimes.
Anyway, if you ever feel like writing about shows you've been watching, please do! Only because selfishly I like to hear other people's thoughts on shows.
I used to write up almost every show I watched, but then I grew too lazy or something... Or decided that I am too rambling to make sense and too "look, another shiny person ran across the stage".
About things tending to run together - I think it's happened to me with Elisabeth, there's so many versions and so many people. I keep wanting to do a thorough rewatch of all the versions with taking lots of notes) Maybe I will, some day.
I like reading reviews! And yes, comparisons are hard to write and often sad to read. But still, reviews are good. Write some ;)
Juri and Ranju did very-very-very well! They both act differently than Asako and Kirian, the dynamics differs a bit, but it's still great!
Of course I'm not the most objective persons, since I'm a Hanagumi fangirl, but really, I think you should give this version a try. Plus it has an Ichika. Ichika makes everything better.
And Hoshigumi's Scarlet Pimpernel is gorgeous! Aran is wonderful. I really like her Percy. This role suits her perfectly ♥
Ichika is definitely very cool: it's noticeable even in those clips on YouTube. ... hmm, maybe in a full show Juri and Ranju are more impressive as a duo (I know you're not objective; neither am I, and really, fangirling is not something that brings objectivity out in a person).
One day I will finish watching it... I like Aran usually, it's just I get distracted and moved to rewatch bits of the Tsuki version.
Oh, I remembered another instance of two versions of something, if shinkos count - I watched the Don Juan shinko!
Comparing pairs of small clips, one of which is from your favourite version, and watching another version in full - is really different :) Juri and Ranju work good together. Just different from Asako and Kirian (well, obviously).
And no-no-no, rewatching bits of the version you know in the middle of another one is really not the way to appreciate the gorgeousness of Aran! Or anyone actually. Please don't do that. Just watch the Hoshigumi version from beginning to the end :)
Yep, I think that Shinko counts as a different version of the same thing. I'd like to read your review of Don Juan! I like this musical (as you probably know ;) )
I agree that Hoshi Pimpernel is great, but I've not seen the Tsuki one so can't say squat about it.
As you may have noticed I like to compare shows and things (I used to do it with films too, back when I used to write about films). Even if I like more than one version, which I usually do, I like to pick out and contrast the different things that were done and which worked best IMO. One day I'll do a Elisabeth review-dump, but I need to have all the versions to watch them within a short space of each other to do that. Nearly there, only missing two. I try and be balanced, but if I don't like a version I'm not going to hide it too much - someone else is bound to love it anyway.
That is if I stop being lazy and continue doing write ups, which to be fair I would probably go back to if I had more time.
