Losing grip on slang.

Whenever I step out into the big bad world, I always seem to come back home with strange stories. And questions. It must either be something about me or it says something about the people who live in Portland. I'm leaning towards the latter ( Read more... )

I'm only 5-8 years older than any 9-11th grader, and it's really weird how high schoolers act these days. It makes me think when I'm like 30 or 40, what the kids will be like. I can imagine myself saying "Back when I was your age..." o_0

If you were to ask me why I hoard stuff even though I know I can't take it with me, I don't know. Some people spend their time wisely learning things and helping others...I can do both of those things and collect stuff and still make time for my family. IDK, you can't take ANYTHING with you when you go, so you have to do something while you live.

Sorry, I have to start this off by squeeing over your icon. Oh, I think I could swoon...

Oh, I know. How high schoolers and younger kids act these days is just mind-boggling as I'm sure most of us twenty-somethings and older never acted in the ways they do now.

I have no clue why I hoard things either, but possibly just to keep them, I suppose. But that's good you are also able to spend time with family and friends as it's always good to do that too.

I thought swagger meant butt/hip wiggle. ;(

lol, it does mean that. But it's been becoming slang. Those entries I copy-pasted were written four to two years ago. And it's being used more and more in pop music these days with meanings that don't exactly mean the hip sway.

Pop culture is making this word so difficult.

Interesting! Granted, I definitely don't know about any current slang for the word "swagger," but I will say I have never in my life heard it applied to a woman. Bold, cocky men swagger. Bold, cocky women strut. And I've only ever heard it used to describe a walk. So, I have to say that cerberusrelief is probably right and they were probably referring to the way your hips were swaying. ^_~

I haven't heard swagger applied to women either until over the summer. It's been cropping up more and more in pop, hip-hop and rap music recently, and always in reference to women. I didn't think much of it then (because I thought it was mainly used to keep the rhyme and meter flowing), until this incident and had to look it up.

from your definition it sounds like they were just trying to say you were hot...but I don't think being judged like a piece of meat is that fun either.

lol that billboard quote made me laugh. I don't understand why it deserved to be on a billboard though..to me that means "Yeah, use your time in between your lunch break and when you leave from work wisely"...IDK, my productivity goes down after that point XD

lol, it's not. I can think of many different ways to say a girl is hot than using "swagger". But at least I learned something new.

Oh, that inn every couple of weeks always puts up something either insightful or funny on its billboard to attract attention. It's near the airport and has to compete with the other hotels somehow. lol, well the lunch break just means you're only a few hours away from going home. It's like being in school all over again where all the classes after lunch don't mean much.
