Remind me to pick a safer hobby next time around, like beekeeping or skydiving. It's looking like Puzzlebox is going to be another exercise in learning things I already knew about human nature. Rule One: rules are for the people who don't undertand the underlying physics.

People who don't understand the underlying physics of rule one, are the most insistant that the rules don't/shouldn't apply to them.

The toughest thing for me whenever I've tried to join an existing meritocracy, has been to learn the ground rules without being perceived as someone who would not respect them if my questions were answered. Old timers know who they are and who can be trusted, and it's risky to go about explaining what's what to newbies who could use the information against them.

Being a perpetual newbie, I get this a lot.
