Dear Yuletide, we have some questions for you. You may have some answers, as well as unrelated suggestions about the way Yuletide is run, or questions of your own. Please share your ideas, whether they concern nominations, rarity, matching, gifts, or timeframes... and so on.

I prefer LJ, but I wouldn't mind Dreamwidth if both comms had the RSS feeds set to show the full post, not just the bits outside of cut tags. I'd prefer everything was only posted on one place, because looking at the comments on both places is a pain.

Thanks for letting us know your preference! We'll make note of it. I'm not sure how much we can customize the RSS feeds, though - could you give more detail about what you see, please?

The LJ feed shows me the whole post. The DW feed shows me all of the post that's outside the cut tags. That is how LJ and DW do things by default.

You can see the difference in the LJ RSS feed vs the DW RSS feed, by opening these just in your browser:
LJ: http://yuletide-admin.livejournal.com/data/rss
DW: https://yuletide-admin.dreamwidth.org/data/rss
If you look at the first post, at the top, the LJ version shows you the whole thing. The DW one has a link to the questions, and the draft schedule, but you can't see anything else in that post.

The way the DW feed is set up is really easy to change. There's a guide in the FAQs at https://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faqbrowse?faqid=119

Is it possible to reconsider the reveal date? Given that it's called Yuletide, rather than the Big Fandom Christmas Exchange, I'm not sure why the reveal date is on Christmas day.

When would you suggest it be moved to, bearing in mind that the date of Yule itself (or rather the Winter Solstice) is a) a variable date and b) in June for half the world? I realise this might sound flippant, but I'm legitimately interested to know your proposed solution.

My proposed solution is to pick a date that's not Christmas for the gift reveals.

And I had technical issues where I could not set it up to my (primary) yahoo email. I also could not get my gmail to forward, which was a pain, because I had to keep remembering to log into the gmail account. Inevitably, by the time I did, the prompts that I could have written for had been claimed.

Yeah, some of the problems were on my end (and I still don't know how to fix them), but I found it easier with the Yahoo group in years past.

I've reduced my LJ time, but I still spend more time there than on DW, so count my vote for continuing to cross-post.

Maybe a Facebook group?

We'd be happy to look into your issues with the Google group more specifically - would you be willing to email us with more specifics, please?

While we have no objections to a Facebook group, it probably wouldn't get a lot of mod support. We'd prefer to keep the platforms we support limited. Facebook's emphasis on real names might limit your pool of participants, too.

I would definitely prefer continued cross-posting to LJ, or maybe email announcements (the main ones, not every countdown to deadline). Or using the AO3 inbox? I don't have a DW account and I would prefer not to have to create one just for Yuletide.

Thank you for the feedback! For email announcements, it might be possible to get notifications of new posts, whether LJ or DW, through a feed?

Unfortunately, the AO3 inbox cannot be used in this way.

I would prefer cross-posting even if the LJ comm has comments disabled. I don't want requests to be visible before sign-ups close.

Thank you for your feedback! We are also considering an automated feed, in the event that we did stop posting directly to LJ.
