Characters not appearing in the autocomplete

Oct 07, 2013 20:02

Since this bug is still unfixed on the archive, I'm repeating elynross's post from last year.

Some characters that are available in the tag set are not appearing as characters to choose in the character autocomplete. These characters are still available for requests/offers, but you'll have to enter them manually. The best way to do this is to copy and ( Read more... )

Are there instructions for checking the tag set? I'm seeing a lot of characters not in the drop down and I want to make sure I'm entering them correctly.

Nevermind, I figured it out.

Actually, I have this same question.

The tag set has a complete list of the eligible tags. Copy/paste to be sure you're getting the correct format.

I apologize if this isn't possible, but is there any way to get this fixed if we let you know about a specific instance?

I ask because one of the five main characters in the fandom New Girl isn't in the dropdown, although she is in the tag set: Cece Parekh. I've already seen people assuming this means she wasn't nominated and can't be requested/offered, which is a shame since she's one of the most major characters on the show (especially compared to most of the other characters nominated) and one of the few characters of color.

No way to fix a specific instance, but if she's in the tag set, copy and paste her exact tag and you should be fine.

I'm more concerned that people think they can't request or offer her, since they won't know they can c/p if they haven't seen this thread. The same character (Cece Parekh) also has AO3 tags as "Cece" and "Cece Meyers" (which redirect to the main tag) -- is there any way that one of the alternate versions of the character name could be included instead, to circumvent the bug?

Thank you!

Changing the tag probably won't fix the problem, which seems to have no relation to whether or not a tag is canonical and might bork already existing sign-ups.

We currently state twice in the sign-up form instructions that this is a problem and explain how to circumvent it, with a link to the tag set.

is there any reason why one of the characters listed in the fandom i nominated's name has been butchered? because i nominated her actual character name and it's showing up in the taglist as something completely arbitrary, which means no one will offer to write her because she doesn't actually have a name in the taglist anymore.

If you'll give me the name of the character and the fandom, I'll look into it.

I found your complaint in the earlier thread. I've now renamed Lady (G.I. Joe Retaliation) to Lady Jaye (G.I. Joe Retaliation), and I apologize for the mistake. We don't like to change the tag set after sign-ups start due to potential issues with existing sign-ups for the fandom, but this mistake had made the character unrecognizable and I deemed it necessary.

If you'd signed up with the old tag please fix your sign-up to include the new one instead.

I apologize if this has been addressed before, but in the "Tangled" fandom, a character called Tiphane is coming up as an option. I have no idea who that is (he or she is not a character in the movie "Tangled"). If I offer to write ALL characters in "Tangled," there's no chance I'll be matched with someone who's selected that character, is there?

That is very odd. As far as I can tell, Tiphane is not in the tag set for the fandom, but the signup form is allowing them through. I think you are safe to offer Tangled with Any, so long as you are fine with all the characters listed in the tag set (if it turns out to be a problem, email us and we will sort something out). We will be trying to find out what is happening with this, but it sounds like it could be to do with the unsolved bug about some characters not appearing in the autocomplete.

Best thing to do is to click on the Technical Support and Feedback link in the AO3 footer, and fill the form in as completely as you can. It will be routed to the appropriate department.
