Frequently Asked Questions about the AO3, Yuletide, and the Searching Thereof

Grey Bard, with the help of #yuletide, collected some questions about the archive and searching and asked if answers could be posted. Most of these questions are the type that should be directed to AO3 support, and should eventually end up in the Archive FAQs, but may ( Read more... )

So clicking on the "fandoms" button in the main Yuletide collection will show you all the fandoms in YT 2009 & YTM 2009 combined, while going into either sub-collection and clicking on the "fandoms" tab will show you a list of the fandoms used just in that sub-collection.

Unless I'm misunderstanding what you mean here, this isn't working.

When I go to the main Yuletide page and click fandoms, it only shows Yuletide2009 fandoms. When I go to the main Yuletide2009 page and click fandoms, it only shows the Yuletide 2009 fandoms.

I had expected that the shorter stories for madnesswould be included, but they're not. The only way to bring those fandoms up is separately, by click on the parent category of "yuletide", then clicking "yuletide madness 2009" (where it's listed next to Yuletide 2009).

The madness stories aren't incorporated into the main collection at all, and can only be accessed this way, which really surprised me. Unless I'm doing something completely screwy and don't know what I'm talking about.

Unless I'm doing something completely screwy and don't know what I'm talking about.

And we have a winner. :P

Now I see what you're talking about.

Are there any plans to have the madness fandoms incorporated in the Yuletide 2009 so that someone clicking on this year's yuletide can see everything done for this year? Or is that a question best asked of the archive?

Thanks!

No, that's a Yuletide question, as we (the mods) set up and maintain the Collections.

For this year, you can get both 2009 Yuletide&Yuletide Madness by clicking on the 'fandoms' button in the parent collection, as noted. But once the older collections are imported, you'll need to go to each individual one to pull up the works within.

When do we expect the author reveal? Is it midnight tonight (EST)? Or some time tomorrow?

At this point I'm thinking probably some time tomorrow. One of us is gallivanting for the evening, and the other is a bit under the weather, so it may have to wait. :)

Should I upload my old Yuletide stories to AO3? laurakaye January 16 2010, 05:32:57 UTC
I just created my AO3 account and have been in the process of loading my stories into the archive. I understand that in the future you plan to move the Yuletide archive from previous years to the AO3. Should I go ahead and upload my old Yuletide stories to the archive along with everything else on my web page, or will that cause problems for you? And if I do upload them, are there specific tags I should use?

If you import them from the old Yuletide archive, that's fine (it'll handle it automatically when they do the import), but if you upload them from elsewhere, it'll make duplicates.

(I am not a mod, etc.)

Thanks! I want to make sure I don't make things more difficult for anyone. :)

lady_susan_lj is right about importing from the YT site v. uploading/importing from elsewhere. If you do decide to upload them now, rather than wait, you'll have duplicates if you import from your own website, but in theory, the import is going to recognize that the stories are already there, if you import from the YT site. In either case, if you don't wait for the auto-import, you'll have to go through and add the Collection names for each year, once those collections are in place.

I have a question regarding the move of yuletide stories to AO3. I have an account there (albeit under my LJ name instead of my first name 'Nina' which I always signed up with). Now I haven't participated in recent years - I think I participated three times 2005, 2006 and 2007. I have posted at least two of these stories on my AO3 account already. I would like to live them under my penname. But I am wondering if you intend to move all of yuletide to AO3 and if so if I am to apply a tag or something indicating that the story was pwart of say "yuletide 2005"?
