Chromatic Yuletide 2014

Oct 23, 2014 21:19

Speaking not as a mod, or as anyone official, I have been looking out for a Chromatic Yuletide 2014 post. This has become one of the things I love most in Yuletide - an encouragement to find new worlds and meet new characters. For me, it has made this welcoming and open exchange more welcoming and joyful.

I don’t know whether it is happening officially this year, but in past years it has been an encouragement: as Misses Clause encourages us to think about writing women, this challenge encourages us to think about writing from many perspectives,

To nominate chromatic creators and/or characters
To request chromatic creators and/or characters
To write chromatic creators and/or characters

I’m paraphrasing here from the 2010 Chromatic Yuletide post.

Because of this challenge I’ve had amazing stories written for me - among them a breathlessly beautiful contemporary Thousand and One Nights, and the story of Saidi, who works as an Ayah in “The Secret Garden,” and her daughter, and what they grew in their Indian garden. And because of this challenge I’ve written stories I loved, like Deeba Resham from Un Lun Dun meeting Haroun from the Sea of Stories in old Cordoba.

And if the challenge is not formally running this year, we can keep it in mind informally, and the Chromatic Yuletide community tag is active in the AO3, and we can tag stories to add to it. As I say, I’m not official, and I don’t mean to speak for anyone who is - this is just something I love. To everyone who has made it happen over the years, thank you. As Mau says to Daphne, "you have made my world more perfect."
