I know some authors get very hung up on the length of their gifts but I have little time these days and love that there are so many short fics which are utterly beautiful and self-contained. Here are my favourite short fic (under 2k) reccs so far this year!
Albert Nobbs - The Tobacconist’s Holiday and Other Stories
A very sweet and believable fix it for those of us left howling at the film’s conclusion
http://archiveofourown.org/collections/yuletide2012/tags/Albert%20Nobbs%20(2011)/works Black Books - The Hangover
A morning after Fran and Bernard which captures their voices perfectly.
http://archiveofourown.org/collections/yuletide2012/works/601264 Cabin in the Woods - Performnce Review, 1998
This was my gift fic. I was much more interested in the back office operation than the beasties and the horror - this is the back office annual reviews of key staff. Just what I wanted and made me laugh J
http://archiveofourown.org/collections/yuletide2012/works/601088 Clangers - the Election
I loved that this was written in a classic Oliver Postgate voiceover tone! Politics and clangers are odd bedfellows.
http://archiveofourown.org/collections/yuletide2012/works/600943 Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy - Recalibration
I especially enjoyed the footnotes in this! Zaphod being an arsey Zaphod.
http://archiveofourown.org/collections/yuletide2012/works/601326 The IT Crowd - The Cruciverbalist
Marvellous use of Moss saying flippin’. Very fun!
http://archiveofourown.org/collections/yuletide2012/works/596777 Pirates! In an adventure with Scientists - Pirates! In an Adventure with Bubbles
A squeeing sweet tale of how the pirate captain and his first mate met as lads.
