Character creation is reminiscent of 2.0, what with the character templates. Though now you not only have Class and Race templates, but Backgrounds and Concepts as well, which is cool, but very strict. No skills or feats, so if you want to pick a lock or ride a horse or be badass with a sword, you HAVE to pick a template that gives you that ability, otherwise you're stuck. Hopefully they'll fix this by release, because this is a terrible thing. But the advantage/disadvantage in combat is really awesome. If a rogue character has advantage? Automatic sneak attack bonus, even if they're not hidden. And players can spend a turn to grant advantage to someone else, which is also awesome.
The Cleric had an ability that gave every enemy around him disadvantage if he was holding a shield. Which he was. He called it the "Magical Zone of No Hitting." It was awesome. And the warrior had an ability where if he missed, he did 3 automatic damage. 7 minimum damage if he hit, at Level 1. Because we were fighting kobolds and rats with 2 HP each, he just had to look at them funny and they died. But yeah, the templates are terrible. If they don't fix it, I'm going to GM the hell out of it and have characters purchase a new template every other or every three levels, like feats are in previous versions.

I like the idea of the combat though that sounds like it has a lot of potential.
