On the matter of spoilers--

Aug 07, 2007 09:59

I always get asked this, all the time, by many, many, MANY different people. "Rachel, why do you like spoilers so much?" and the only thing I can usually say in reply is, "I look forward to watching/reading it more that way," and it's hard to elaborate on the "WHY" part of THAT statement. Someone in my F-list finally worded it properly for me.

I' ( Read more... )

XD, My friends always ask me why I like to read 2 chapters of a novel and suddenly flips back to read the end, before continuing normally.

Naps away, it'll help your brain kick-start :D

Ouh, I don't really do that, since it confuses the heck out of me. I like being linear with my stories. However, I do like knowing what happens in random parts of the story by being told or by (accidentally) reading it up. There's still anticipation there. XD

XD to me its more like "how the heck it could happen like that in the end?"
that will anticipates me to read or to finish the story.

That's a subject tekalynn and I have discussed ad nauseam over our many years of friendship. She says the same thing: how it happens is more important than what happens, and she doesn't like surprises ( ... )

Aaah, see. *nod nod* That's a good point. I suppose for me, the emotional impact hits me more when I think about it a lot, I suppose, regardless of if I was spoiled or not. Now that I think about it, though, I the stuff that I really enjoyed were those that I found out for myself -- however, the stuff that I enjoyed outside of the experience of watching itself were the stuff that I was spoiled for.

I'm really indifferent about spoilers because I never get into anything that anyone wants to spoil ... so I never encounter them to develop an adverse response towards spoileryness. And when I do, I'm just like, "Ohh, well that seems cool, maybe I'll check that series out" or something. Unless the spoiler makes the series seem bad then I'll be glad that I didn't read/watch it. I guess if anything, spoilers keep me from wasting my time. XD

I'm usually a spoiler whore, but like you it depends on the series and how heavily I've invested myself in it. See, right now, it doesn't bother me at all that I already know what's going to happen in HP (and you know that I just started reading it), but it's going to bother me in a major way if someone tells me how Devil May Cry 4 ends. Then again, DMC is a video game and I feel more "complete" when I find out what happens all by myself (that's why I only get spoiler-free walkthroughs if ever I use them :D).

XD Yeah, that makes sense. Anyway, if something is really good, it'll still be good even if you know that so and so dies in the end !! *lame*

I think if I ever get into games, I really will need the walkthrough. The only game I've ever played was FF7 and I'm not even a quarter done with the first PC disk yet. >_> Stupid error. If I didn't have the walk through, I'd never be done. @_@
