Shin2 Dan: Chapter 9
Standing on the rooftop, Yamada silently watches the floating white clouds. Blue sky and white clouds are one of his favorite scenery. What he wouldn’t do to just lie down and gaze at it. It never fails to calm his nerves.
Thinking about the files about Kamiki that Fukuda had sent him, Yamada put on a puzzled expression. On the files, there are nothing really stood out to make Kamiki seems like a good candidates for the team. Kamiki never had any martial arts training, the only exercise that Kamiki did in his life is soccer, and perhaps a little softball during elementary. Despites that, the reflex and alertness that Kamiki showed them the morning before tells Yamada otherwise. The only explaination that he could think of is due to genetics. Yet, the files on his parents are still a bit unclear. They are the only missing puzzle in Kamiki’s past.
“Yamachan!” A voice called out to him causing Yamada to loose his thought. He turns to see Shida Mirai running up to him. She stops in front of him and catch her breath.
“Yamachan.” Shida holds out her keitai, “I just got your message.”
“Here.” Yamada hold a clear jar filled with colorful stars toward Shida, “This is what you wanted.”
Her eyes quickly changes expression as she takes the jar from his grasp. Studying it with interests, she gives him a bright smile. “Thanks Yamachan. I know I could always count on you.”
Yamada gives the girl a small smile before turning his gaze back to the clouds.
“I know you didn’t make this.” Shida’s words cause Yamada to turn back to her.
“What make you think that?” Yamada asked.
“Yamachan wouldn’t do such silly things for me.” Shida gave a sighs, caused Yamada to feel guilty. “But no matter, it’s the thought that counts.”
Yamada continues to watch the girl as she walks to the railing and stood next to him. She brings the jar toward the sky and gazes at it with a smile.
“Do you know what my wish is?” Shida said.
“What is it?” Yamada asked.
Bringing the jar close to her heart and close her eyes, Shida quietly whispers, only loud enough for both of them to hear, “I wish for Yamachan to be able to forget that day.” After her reciting her wish, she turns to Yamada with sad eyes. Yamada could only stares at her.
“What are you talking about?” Yamada asked, his heart suddenly becomes heavy, “Don’t use your precious wish on me.”
“I wish for Yamada to be happy again.” Shida said, “Forget about that accident! I think Yuto-kun will want the same!”
“What do you know about Yuto?” Yamada snapped, causing Shida to retreat in surprise.
Shida stares at him with sad eyes, “It had already been 9 years.”
“So what?” Yamada snarled, “I’ll never forget that day. For as long as I live, I will not forget. I will get find that person and give him the proper judgment he deserves.”
“Revenge won’t solve anything.” Shida quickly exclaimed, “And you haven’t got a single clue to that person.”
Yamada grew silent. He knows that Shida is right, but that’s the reason why he joined Shinrichi secret organization in the first place. That’s why he agreed to do all these stupid missions, to work for under a student president that he doesn’t like, to be her trusted partner. In order to find his best friend’s murderer, he had to get close to Fukuda Mayuko, and uses her vast resources. At the moment, only Fukuda Mayuko could help him. Only then will he be able to find that man.
“Yamachan!” Shida’s voice brought him back from his thoughts.
“Just leave me alone!” Yamada exclaims.
“I’m worried about you.” Shida softly said next to him. Before he could reply, she runs back to class.
After watching the sulking figure disappears behind the door, Yamada turns his gaze back to the sky and muttered under his breath, “Thank you.”

Author's Note: Even though I don't write about Shida Mirai much, she is a crucial character for this story (or at least in my head). So please bear with it until it's her turn to shine. Shida is the emotional support for Yamada, and also the key to Yamada's past with Nakajima Yuto. Since the 10th chapter is coming up soon, a ShidaxYamada (or Yamashi) chapter. You can see the reason why Yamada is in the school secret organization as well as why he partnered with Fukuda, and of course, the current relationship between Fukuda and Yamada. Fufufu slight angst in the far future chapter.
