Chapter 18
They had all been nervous, not knowing what to expect. When the two of them walked up to their table a relieved sigh escaped all of them, as if they had somehow planned it to go like that. For a second, the four of them threw each other scared glances, wondering: “Heck, did we blew it up?” But she just giggled, made a bow, then stretched a hand towards their table, in a very cute fashion and presented herself.
“Hello, I’m Nakamura Miyuki. It’s a pleasure to finally meet you. Aoi-san has been talking non stop about you guys all day.”
They all lunged to shake her hand, which of course created even more chaos at the table and made her laugh even harder.
“And I have to say Aoi-san was right. I think I’m loving you already.”
They blushed, again in-group. Aoi joined the laughter also. It was just so much fun to see his friends so flustered, especially Kai and Reita, the usually level headed ones. During dinner the atmosphere grew comfortable fast. Miyuki charmed them all without even trying and then made all of them fall in love with her when, referring to Uruha and Reita, she said.
“You know, Uruha-san and Reita-san, I really don’t mind.”
The two poor confused members just stared at her.
“I don’t mind you cuddling together at the dinner table.”
Silence.
“I’m sorry. Shouldn’t I have said that? I apologize. It’s just that you look at each other from time to time so lovingly and your hands disappear for a few moments under the table so it really takes an idiot not to realize that you’re a couple. A lovely one at that.”
Reita and Uruha were red as tomatoes but they drew closer together and Uruha put a possessive arm around his lover’s waist.
“We just didn’t think it would make a great first impression…”
“What better to warm up the atmosphere than love? I do hope you haven’t been imagining me as some sort of witch up until now. And Aoi-san, stop giggling, you’re only making them more nervous.”
Aoi looked at her serious face and then broke into laughter, along with Kai and Ruki. After a few seconds, when he was finally able to gain his composure back, he explained.
“I’m not the one making them red as a street light.”
“Oh, I do apologize for that. Or maybe I don’t.” She playfully said, sticking out her tongue a bit and then said, a nice pink color staining her cheeks: “Gods, how childish of me.”
“Welcome to the group.” Uruha said and stuck his tongue out too.
From then on, dinner didn’t seem like a grown up gathering at all. And amidst all the fun and laughter, Aoi would throw her way surprised and happy glances. She just seemed to fit in with the Gazette. And that was really an important thing to him. He was sure it meant a lot for the rest of the guys too.
………………………………….
Later that night, Kai and Ruki were snuggled up together under the blankets, Kai’s arms wrapped protectively around Ruki’s small frame. They didn’t feel like sleeping yet so they decided to talk a bit until sleep came.
“What do you think about Miyuki-san, Ruki-kun?”
“I think she is lovely. Aoi-kun was right. She really is a wonderful woman.”
“I think the same. She’s also quite open-minded. I guess that’s what made her contact Aoi-shi like that again.”
“Yeah, I was shocked for a second there when she mentioned Uru and Rei-chan’s relationship. I really wondered what we’d do if she’d turn out homophobic on us or something.”
“Yeah. And did you watch Aoi-shi closely? His eyes were sparkling. He was truly enjoying himself.”
“Yeah. I’m so glad. I think they’ll be able to make a lovely family. Maybe I was wrong. Aoi-shi isn’t giving up on love. He’s just choosing a different type of love.”
“Yeah. I can tell he’s going to fall in love with her. Maybe not to the extent he would have loved Sakito-san... Not with that passion. But love isn’t always like that.”
“Love is almost never like that, is it, Kai-chan? It takes understanding more than desire, a will to put another’s wishes before your own. Have you ever fallen in love like that, Kai?” Ruki’s voice was soft and laced with tenderness and it made Kai’s heart beat faster than he ever thought possible, wondering if Ruki did suspect after all… And if he did, what would become of them?
“Yeah, I have.”
“Did it work out?”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“I never confessed.”
“Why not?”
“I was too afraid to ruin what we already had. And I was scared of being rejected. And I was terrified of hurting that person.”
Ruki turned in Kai’s embrace and gazed determined in Kai’s eyes.
“You don’t need to be afraid, Kai-chan. I’m sure they love you back.” And this time it was Ruki that kissed Kai, just a tender brush of lips that managed to turn Kai’s world upside down again. In that moment Kai was sure that Ruki knew and, judging by what he had said, he felt the same way. But Ruki’s eyes closed soon after and his breath evened out, sign that he had gone to sleep. And even though he had been sure a moment before, Kai succumbed to confusion again because it was really too hard to keep believing your biggest wish had come true.
……………………….
During the drive home, Uruha and Reita too, just like Kai and Ruki had started talking about the new happy couple.
“We are pretty obvious aren’t we?” Uruha remarked chuckling. “I was a bit shocked by her honesty. I like it though. She fits with the Gazette.”
“Yeah. But I don’t think we’re that obvious. We’d be in trouble if we were.”
“Why would we?”
“Well, the fans, the company…”
“What do you think about us, Rei-chan?” Uruha had turned serious.
“What do you mean, baby?”
“What would you do if it were all out in the open? Do you really hate that idea?”
Reita took a few moments to think it over.
“No, I don’t. That’s why I guess I don’t really put that much effort in hiding this. But I do think that our fans should find out from us and not a third party. It’s our lives, true, but they have a huge place in our hearts, don’t they? It would just feel wrong. And I don’t want to lie to them either so it hurts me every time we have to answer those questions. I just… I just wish we’d tell the world already.”
“I wish that too, Rei-chan.” Uruha said staring longingly out the car’s window. But no matter how hard you look for the starry sky, you can’t find it in Tokyo. He thought.
“I really loved the ring.” Uruha said cheerfully again.
“Yeah, I kind of figured you would.”
“Now why are you grinning like that? Don’t you think it was pretty?”
“Right back at you. Why are you pouting?”
“Mou… I just loved the way it seemed delicate and strong at the same time. And it was so unique. Obviously Aoi-shi got Irie-san to make it. I could recognize that craftsmanship anywhere. Such an unusual color to pick, don’t you think?”
“Yeah. I think it shows just how much Aoi-kun thought about this, his decision and hopes for the future.”
“Such a pale yet strikingly beautiful blue. I wonder what stone it is… And the way the carvings accentuated the jewel, as if embracing it… I wonder exactly how Aoi-shi came up with such a beautiful idea.”
“Why not ask him?”
“Nah, this one is supposed to be just between the two of them, I think.”
They soon arrived at their apartment building. Reita decided for once to take advantage of the lonely streets and late hour to tenderly embrace his lover after getting out of the car and kissing him lovingly. They were interrupted however by…
“You really shouldn’t abuse people like that in public, Reita-ojisan.”
Both of them separated instantly and turned shocked towards the owner of the voice. Which happened to be a frail looking, around thirteen years old boy, dressed in some baggy jeans and a horribly green and dirty T-shirt, a soccer ball grabbed tightly in his arms. His whole appearance was a mess and the cheeky grin on his face and his posture revealed a lively, probably trouble making little guy. That was Uruha’s first impression.
“Oh, Ryou-kun (亮), you scared us.”
“You scared me… I mean here I am, minding my own business, waling on the street and what do I see, my favorite ojisan is molesting this cute little lady.”
Cute little lady?! Uruha decided he would kill the boy slowly and painfully. Reita just laughed.
“Ryou-kun, cocky as usual I seem. Guess I’ve shocked you so much you wouldn’t want me to come to your next practice game...”
“Oh, come on, Reita-san. You get more of a kick out of it than I do. That doesn’t work on me anymore, you know. 14 already.”
“I thought it was in 2 weeks.”
“Well, I am counting the 9 months before I shined into this world.”
“I see.”
“Well, got to go now, ojisan. Oh, and Uruha-san, it’s been a pleasure. When you decide to leave this old geezer, I’m living right next door.” With a grin stretching from one ear to the other, the boy ran towards their apartment building.
“Cute little lady? I’m gonna kill him. Which reminds me, who is he? And why does he know me when I most certainly don’t know him.”
“Now you’re pouting again. He was just joking, you know. And well, he’s a Gazette fan and our neighbor. I guess since I haven’t met him in a while, I forgot to mention there’s this kid I sometimes play around with.”
“So you’re pals?”
“Yeah, something like that.” Reita said chuckling. “Guess nanny is more appropriate though.”
“Never thought you’d baby sit.”
“Not like that. He’s… I’m a little worried about him. But seeing him so lively today certainly made me happy.”
“Why are you wor…”
They had already gone inside the apartment, Reita being the last to enter, closing the door behind them. Uruha was suddenly stopped in mid-speech by Reita’s hungry lips on his and he found himself pressed against the wall and a very excited lover’s body. When they finally parted in order to take things to the bedroom, Uruha finally got a chance to mutter:
“Now what is this for?”
“Oh, I was just reminded how cute you were.” Reita chuckled before lavishing Uruha’s neck with kisses.
The lovely pout on the guitarist’s lips certainly didn’t plead his case. Not that he was really averse to anything Reita could say at the moment. However…
“Oh, no you don’t. I’ll show you nice pretty lady!”
And just like that, Uruha spun them around and after brandishing a wicked smile, leaned down to pleasure his lover. He loved it every time his name came out in undistinguishable syllables out of Reita’s mouth. Reita really had no idea that he was as loud as Uruha when he was underneath him like this.
Reita loved angelic Uruha, writhing underneath him, entrusting his everything to him but he also loved the demon that was ravishing him right now. The guitarist’s kisses all over his torso turned to bites from time to time and he’d always be able to brandish a fresh set of markings in the morning. You were never sure what Uruha would do next when he hovered over you in that way. One moment he’d grab your head and make your lips collide forcefully with his, while he was playing with the strands of your hair. Or he’d gaze intensely into your eyes before placing butterfly kisses all over your face. He’d kiss and bite and caress and be forceful and gentle at the same time. And he was an expert with his tongue, that devious muscle tasting his skin, playing with his nipples and then, after Uruha had engulfed him to the hilt, making him forget everything except Uruha’s name. Uruha’s fiery gazes and the smirk adorning his lips after he had swallowed everything his lover had to offer were nothing close to angelic, just plain devilish, but Reita loved every second of it. He was just hopelessly in love with the man.
A/N: Made it on time this week though. It's largely thanks to the people supporting me and saying they'd hate it if I put it on hold so I managed this week too. Thank you, I love you guys.
