Good, good. Same as usual. Still in retail, but I drive myself around now. XD Getting married finally next year. Trying to figure out this whole apartment hunting thing.
Also, my daughter has decided to try Mandarin as her language in high school next year, as I pointed out it's far more common than French or German. Any advice for her to prepare?
I'd say for her, listen to a lot of Chinese. Maybe find something in Chinese she might like, like Chinese dramas or something, because the tones are probably going to be the biggest stumbling block for her in the beginning. Some of my American friends who were Chinese-learners said that they got their tones down by listening to radio shows, TV dramas, etc.
Oh, oh, and it just occurred to me that there's a resource out there to help your daughter as she embarks on Mandarin study: Chinese Forums.
There's an entire section of the forums dedicated to people learning Chinese, and everybody is of different levels, so she might find them helpful if class isn't helping her or if she doesn't understand her teacher's explanations. The people there are super nice, super awesome, and the regulars genuinely want to help.
=) I usually frequent the living-in-china section of the forums, but I do make occasional forays into the learning chinese section, and they do offer links to all kinds of amazing resources: TV shows, radio programs, books, songs... If she's interested in something, I'm sure she can find it there, and if she can't, she can always start a new topic!
