I've done a few talks before, but this was the first one at an international conference (last time I gave a poster). It was a bit nerve wracking but it was a good thing.
Heh, see, I'm kinda hoping some of these people might hire me so I figured I should be professional.
I've noticed this with my not-quite-eleven-year-old daughter already--it really prepares you for being up in front of people and projecting when you need to.
The Maid of the Mist rocks! It's been a very long time since I went on it, and my friends and I thought it would be super cheesy, but had an unexpectedly fabulous time in spite of ourselves. :)
I almost wish I'd done what my supervisor did later in the day and just declined the microphone to begin with. The theatre from undergrad had the second worst accoustics in the country, surely I could handle a midsized lecture hall. :p
It was a lot of fun. I'd seen the falls from the top before, but I didn't appreciate just how big they were until they were drenching us.
Certainly. :D I'll look up the convention centre and come meet you. I'm not familiar with the place, so it's probably best if you text/call me when you're finished and we can figure out then where to meet - I'll just make sure I'm in the area by 8.
Yeah, that's probably simplest. Finding the convention centre itself should be easy (go to Union station, walk towards the CN Tower and look for the weirdoes in costume), but once you're close the place gets a bit crazy.

Next time you can't wear a fedora, let me know. I'll wear mine and it'll be like you're wearing one vicariously!

And it is never to early in your career to be quirky. Start early so no one steals your particular quirkiness. :P
