Most of these are likely accurate.  However, I disagree with the ivory-billed woodpecker as people keep claiming evidence of it, and also, it lives in places where people rarely go so it was never easy to spot.  Another reason to keep that one listed as endangered is that doing so protects its habitat ( Read more... )

Scientists may have discovered the first extragalactic exoplanet.  :D

AstroAccess flew a crew of 12 disabled explorers to the edge of space for zero-g exercises.  They did quite well there, which makes sense given that people with disabilities have to adapt all the time already.  This is good progress, if a bit late to the party.

Apparently some genius domesticated cassowaries in the past.  I'm going to bet that was one person who knew the trick of imprinting and taught other folks how to use it, rather than multiple people deciding that a murderous bird was a dandy candidate for a farm animal.

A meteor may have inspired the story of Sodom and Gomorrah.  Though I do wonder if they checked for a manmade explosion.

Okay, it's fascinating that they are still alive.  But reviving them?  Maybe not such a great idea.  There was a savvy science fiction story, "The Greatest Dying," about that.
