Other titles include First Cat and She-Who-Taught-Humans-to-Be-Useful. She is small, her coat a soft grayish-brown dabbed with dots and streaks of black. She is an Egyptian cat, among the earliest to domesticate humans. Ta-Mau-Aa negotiated the Bargain in which humans provide a comfortable home with mice to eat, and cats kill vermin that would otherwise eat up the grain. It is possible that Meeyuty was the same deity as “Mauti” who is depicted in the Tomb of Seti II and believed to refer to
Mau or Mau-Aa, the Great Cat, a form of Ra (Re).
Egyptian gemstones included red jasper and green malachite. Precious metals included
silver and gold.
Ta-Mau-Aa's Kittens Ta-Mau-Aa's Ticked Tabby Son He is a black-based tabby who appears mostly a warm, heathered gray with black stripes at the points. He has yellow-green eyes and salmon nose leather. A ticked tabby has a faintly speckled body, but may have more dramatic tabby markings on the head, legs, and tail. This is a very common pattern among small wild cats, including the
African wildcat (which may be ticked, spotted, or striped but tends toward faint markings). Dark lines and streaks around the eyes are still called "Bast's eyeliner."
Ta-Mau-Aa's White-Patched DaughterShe is a gray dotted tabby with faint stripes on her face and forelegs but darker stripes on her hindlegs and tail. She has green eyes and brick nose leather. The "
whited" effect appears in many wild cats, in which the muzzle, chest, and belly are white and may have dark spots. It can be passed to domestic cats when the populations mix. However, white socks come from one of the "
white spotting" genes common in domestic cats.
