Also if you ever want to help restore some of the local ecology, I recommend pawpaws. They're endangered in some areas (there are various breeds), they give good fruit, and *Monsanto is trying to genetically engineer them so hurry hurry*.
Oh, and American chestnut. It's difficult getting one that's not a hybrid or is Chinese disguised as American, but if you can get the American chestnut... well, we used to sing songs about our very incredibly popular native nut. So many songs. Then the blight came,.
